GOLDEN COMPASS!

Anyone seen this movie. The movie is actually based on a novel series called "his dark materials trilogy".

I thought this movie was quite good and will be looking forward to seeing the next one. There will be a total of three movies for this title.

I haven't seen it, but friends tell me it isn't as good as the book and a lot more confusing. They did say, though, that the bear fight was awesome, and so were most of the special affects (daemons, giant flying ships, etc.)

The Golden Compass book, by Phillip Pullman, is incredible, so The Golden Compass movie has a lot to live up to. Apparently, the ending is completely different in the movie--in the book,
Lyra goes to Lord Asriel with Rodger, Asriel gives them lodging but at night sneaks Rodger up to the peak of a mountain and sacrifices him to open a giant door in the Northern Lights, which he goes through with Mrs. Coulter, who turns out to be his former wife. Lyra decides if Asriel wants to destroy Dust and is a bad guy, then Dust must be good. Lyra follows Asriel and Coulter through the door.

Do they fly off into the distance in the movie, or something?

I watched the movie. It's okay. It had cool special effects, but there was very little heart in the movie. Also, Nicole Kidman is very attractive.

yamata:
The movie doesn't get to that point. They filmed part of it and there is an additional scene in the videogame that shows it. So yes, the movie stops on the airship flying to Asriel's place.
Can't wait for the next one to come out. It might come out sooner than usual since i think they've finished filming it due to Nicole Kidman being pregnant.
Eh, I wasn't all that impressed by the book. It was alright, but, not among my favorites or anything. It started out so good, but then the ship sank or something. That's just me, coming from someone who loves certain kids books.

There won't be a 2nd or third, seriously this movie bombed, and bombed hard. People just didn't like it much I guess, and Christians boycotted the movie due to it being Anti Christ of something as well.
I saw the movie, I thought it was cool but rather confusing. I would like to read the books at some point, maybe that will help. It seemed interesting from what I could gather.
Yeah, i find that there was more detail in the book than what i saw of the movie. But i would probably read the other two books to get a proper understanding of what's coming up in the movies.
Haven't seen the movie, but the books... well, I read them. I enjoyed them up until a point, but that point was where the author's religious views overwhelmed things-- a fault many authors need to beware.

I won't spoil things for the sake of anyone who doesn't know, but I will say that if you are promoting a particular, fairly extreme viewpoint, if you assume that all right-thinking people will agree with you, you're doing it wrong. Make me want to agree-- don't assume that I will.
