obviously you don't know how to play rpgs

furthermore, dear developers: if it's enticing to skip merrily through the dialogue rather than read it, there is something horribly wrong with your game's writing.

He meant it could be accidental to skip over them by pressing the "next" button. Of course, you probably won't be doing this anyway if the dialogue was any good... except! Sometimes a button is used to speed up the dialogue, because it may scroll too slowly. By pressing that button it may also accidentally close the window. He said "instant" text, which implies none of this scrolling, therefore a hotspot for accidental skipping.

I would put the text speed-up button on a different button. (I'm not sure if you can do this in RM, or if this is even possible, it's been many, many years since I last used the software). Or have the text scroll fast enough to not need this.
Also, it's a godsend developers' tool when you're replaying your game for bugs/spelling/event checking/etc for the umpteenth time.

Not so great when people put in slow speeds and auto close window ( \^ ) commands.
Yes, I don't skip because I don't like reading, I skip because I want to jump to the gameplay, and I will happily skip the text to do it, but then later realize I missed a bunch of stuff. So to prevent myself from doing that, I pick a reasonably fast option, where it scrolls fast enough for me to read it, but not slow enough for me to want to skip it. (I read very fast).

Sleeping Wind.... Dude... from what I can tell, you've been using rm forever since GW, and YOU JUST NOW noticed this? Are you for real man?

Haha yeah, to be honest though, I am still learning things with Rm2k3. Sure, I can do basic functions and some coding, but some of the stuff I am still unsure of (there are a LOT of commands I never tried in the editor yet... or these shotcut buttons obviously!)

Helpful buttons in 2K/3:
SHIFT during messages
CTRL to walk through objects
F1 in database for small hints on usage
F5 during play to change play size (try it out. Doesn't change window size, just how the window fills)
F9 during play for variables and/or switches
F12 during play to restart

Um, any I'm missing?

Welp, I only knew CTRL, Shift (recent) and F4.

FFFFFF F9 is awesome. Should make a hell lot of testing easier; WHY DIDN'T I NOTICE THIS SOONER.

Long as we're talking about that, let me just say that I really despise "instant" messages. There is absolutely no incentive to read them when you can just rat-a-tat-tat skip them. (and it's soo enticing to skip them) Whenever given a choice (in pro games) I usually pick "fast", but never instant.

Well... I read pretty fast myself. As such, I like instant messages; but that doesn't mean I choose that exclusively. All I can say that in some games like Paradise blue or Kentona's Hellion, I would LOVE instant message when they show you get X amount of AP or "you deciphered a high level scrolllll GJ !" (sorry kentona!) for the 99th time (try buying 99 high end scroll if you are bored and press F5. That would certainly take a while).

...you know maybe I found this because I subconsciously thought that the message would go faster if I press shift - like you know, cause that makes you run in the game.

I implement AP points myself (you got a whoopin X AP message after battle) so instant is a good way for this imo (or battle animation like in TTB).

As for story... I don't like to skip, but I agree if you think that Speed 0 and Speed 1 in RM is A HUGE GAP (i.e. speed 1 is too slow, but speed 0 is too fast for pacing). I think this is a reason why people use 1 instead of the default, but sometimes it gets kinda annoying (especially if the dialogue is pretty bad). If it takes too long without action I am starting to get edgy too. That's when I want to skip things. Also during testings.

And thanks to all who contributed, I didn't realized that RM have these kind of features.
