MASS EFFECT 2

I'm sure pretty much everyone here has heard of the Mass Effect series, and comments about Mass Effect 2 have been popping up on the forums every now and then.

I just want to throw this out there from the start; this is one of the best games I've ever played. And I don't say those words lightly or say that about very many games, either! If you were familiar or if you've played the first Mass Effect, some of the criticisms were clunky gameplay, a dumb approach to planet exploration, and a slow beginning (Citadel ugh).

Mass Effect 2 fixed all of those problems and more. The gameplay is smooth and easy to follow yet still fast paced, the planet exploration is no longer; 'drop your lunar lander type thing and drive around an empty plain forever' (all explorable planets now have their own unique side missions to them), and the plot stays interactive and exciting all the way through. You may or may not have also heard this, but your completed game file from Mass Effect 1 can and should be loaded onto a new game on Mass Effect 2, your Shepard, your decisions, and everything else you did or didn't do in the first game carries over. Also, when you beat Mass Effect 2, hold on to that save as well to get ready for Mass Effect 3 (and the various DLCs)

The thing I'm impressed with the most, however, is the writing and narrative. I almost forgot what it's like to actually have a vested interest in what's going on to everyone and the world (or rather, galaxy) around me. All of the new characters, and the returning old ones are pretty interesting, and they all bring something to the table (I found Jacob kinda boring, though). Even the random NPCs are actually worth stopping in your tracks and listening to. Like I also mentioned before, the gameplay is also streamlined (no more running out of space; weapon choices aren't a part of inventory anymore), and armor is reserved just for Shepard now, but now you can customize pieces and mix and match and whatnot.

I really can't go on without having more good stuff to say about the game, so yeah, discuss! I definitely recommend it.
I just beat Mass Effect 1 today, actually. I went back to my 90% complete game and thought "Hm, it's been a few years, where did I leave off?". Thankfully, Mass Effect has a great journal system and I jumped right back in.

I was thinking about picking up ME2 for 360, because that way I could keep my saves going. The only problem is that ME was running like shit near the end of the game (my 360 has a replacement GPU and it doesn't run as well), and I don't really want to suffer the lag. My PC could run it easily, but then I'd lose my saves. Plus, EA is stupid.
There's nothing to discuss, it's the best game.

Okay really though, I think the thing that impressed me most was how they did progression. The game keeps pushing you forward by forcing you into its main story. Yet it's still very much like an open world (or in this case galaxy) game. You can do whatever you want for a fixed amount of time, and then the game randomly decides to go "HEY, time to move on with the story! I don't care if you haven't recruited Thane yet!" It's slightly annoying, but at the same time you enjoy it because you know something is about to go down. I literally did every side quest in the game on my first run. I didn't want it to end. :(

Also, Mordin and Thane are the best.
To be honest, the theme of the Mass Effect series doesn't catch my attention.

So, I've never played them and probably won't play them.
Your call, but you're seriously missing out. I think the sheer quality of the writing and narrative can be appreciated by anyone.
The game is almost perfect in my eyes. Great cast, plot, dialogue (except for some small parts that felt unnatural), character classes are varied yet the game maintains balance, and it's even packed with a ton of funny easter eggs.

I want this. Thankfully my birthday is right around the corner. I've never played the first, but NB posted a youtube with Mordin talking about interspecies sex and, uh, I was sold.

EDIT: Are there gay NPCs, so I know who to bang?
I recommend everyone to play the first, if they can. Not only for the obvious reasons of actually knowing what the hell's going on (the Codex in Mass Effect 2 does a great job at getting you up to speed, though), but for the perks of importing your save, and well, you really appreciate the improvements from the first to the second that way!

Sorry, this ain't no Fable.

No, but if you consider this some sort of weird, reverse-gay consolation prize, there is a particular chick you can bang that in doing so, the sex act kills you.
I like images too. Hanars are cool but Thane is still the best.

Oh, I forgot to say the narrative is great too. Did anybody else click "Investigate" every single time the option came up? It was that good.
Thane was definitely one of my favorite characters, if not my outright favorite.

*eyes widen*

"Clocked in. 8am. Sun shining. See a coworker. Bobs waves hello. Smells like McMuffin."

It's hard to pick between him and Gilbert and Sullivan slinging Mordin, though.

I can't call this game something other than amazing. I didn't mind the first, but this game just shits all over it. Thane, Jack and Miranda are my faves in this game, Samaras pretty cool as well though. Her loyalty mission was hilarious.

Being renegade provides some funny shit to see in this game, plus you get those terminator eyes haha.
I hate Miranda and if this game had a naming option I'd called her "Whorebiscuit".

dat ass

dat physically impossible ass and borderline camel toe.
I personally made sure to romantically pursue Miranda, just so Commander Shepard can add 'banging a chick with an impossibly phat ass' to his resume of 'going toe to toe with waves and waves of mercenaries/pirates/mechs/Collectors' and 'saving the galaxy from space Cthulu'.

I mean you just gotta.
These people have the scariest looking teeth I've seen since webcomics

dat physically impossible ass

I actually have to capitulate on my last statement, Miranda's ass definitely isn't physically impossible, even considering her build.

uh, not that this is integral to mass effect 2 or anything
