FILESIZE AND EXPANSION PACKS
Posts
post=122824post=122823EDIT: Basically what GOG said about filesize. Generally 2k/3 games that use .midis are only 4 or 5 MB, and the larger ones, with .mp3s, tend to range from 20 - 30 MB and I don't play XP/VX games (because they 99% look the same) so I don't know about their filesizes....It would be the same.post=122807
File size is a gigantic annoyance for me, but then again I am using VX so I guess that comes with the territory.post=122796
I also understand that 2k3 games are very small, this was more generalized towards RMVX and XP, the former of which I use.post=122789
most completed rm2k/2k3 games are under 20mb, and xp/vx games ~60-140mb depending on the game or something like that.
Oh yeah, I forgot. People still don't know how to compress their audio.
I'm planning to have DLC's for my game. It's a strange idea, but I think it's going to be the best way to give the public my work bit by bit. Of course, there's won't be like 100 DLC's but around 10-15, some short, some long.

Most people do, but not everyone wants to shit-ify their audio quality. And I especially don't want to do that with norg's custom soundtracks.

Except that if you do it right, the loss is barely noticeable, if even noticeable at all.

QFT... lol
There's no reason for a batch of streamed audio to be larger in an XP/VX project than 2k/3. OGG compression has insane quality/filesize ratio that mp3 can't touch.
It's pretty easy to do, too. I think effort is the real issue.

I hacked rm2k3 so that it accepts .flac audio and then I uploaded at least five complete squaresoft soundtracks into my game (only around 4 songs are used), I hope you guys enjoy the download

I wouldn't be surprised if someone has actually done that.

b-but the precious kbps...
I pretty much never play episodic games, mostly because they usually aren't finished when I run across them. I often avoid demos for the same reason - I pretty much know I'm not going to want to replay a game, or jump back into a story six months later. So I wait until it's finished, even though with RM games I often suspect they won't be.
