YOUR MOST DISAPPOINTING GAME?

Posts

Meh, I thought Wild ARMs Alter Code F was alright.

Biggest disappointments for me would have to be Suikoden IV, Final Fantasy XII and Xenosaga II.
This topic really got me thinking. There are very few games that have been disappointing to me. Maybe its because I purposely try to lower my expectations into order to trick myself into being pleasantly surprised. Maybe its because when I fail to get into a game I tend to blame myself and my current mood rather than the game itself. However I did come up with a few exceptions.

Grandia III - I love the Grandia series. The first Grandia is possibly my favorite game of all time. I like the combat system, am interested in the story, and empathize with the characters. Grandia III probably had the best combat in the series, but it failed on all other fronts. The only characters that I liked left your party halfway through the game and were never heard from again. Villains with no backstory kept being introduced and killed off before anything about them was explained. The story was just ... bland. I blame this one entirely on my high expectations.

Suikoden II - Wait before you pelt me with rocks, let me explain. I had not one, but two opportunities to purchase this game back when you could actually find it in stores. I foolishly thought I could wait until later. Now it is one of the most sought after games of all time. I finally buckled down and bought it for over $100 on eBay a year ago. It was pretty good, but not the Holy Grail at the end of my 10 year quest. I ended up enjoying Exit Fate a lot more. Its a very similar game but is longer and is completely free.

Bomberman (DS)
I love the Bomberman series. The game play is not for everyone, but I'm part of that someone who enjoys the single player modes as well as the multiplayer. I was expecting a return to the classics with this game. Unfortunately, I was wrong.
All the enemies in the game were rehashed from previous games, even most of the bosses. The Powerup storage, while it made use of the touch screen, was a bad idea, as it made the game way too easy. The challenge that I experience with old bomberman games were not present with this at all. To make it worse, the music was bland and forgettable, the bosses repeated themselves in worlds, and it overall was just a bore. The battle mode also removed many of the great features of the previous games, so this game ranks as one of my least favorite of the series.

I discovered this series existed recently, and this was the first game I played of it. Needless to say, I should probably look for the others. The graphics looked poorly constructed and flat, the pacing was slow as hell. The screen only scrolls once you reach to the far right of the screen as oppose to the center, the whole thing felt like it was made in Multimedia Fusion. I still can't get past the first level of that game.

Having a signature is too mainstream. I'm not part of your system!

Gauntlet Seven Sorrow is a piece of junk. I payed $50 for it, beat it in 3 hours and never touched it again
RE4, hands down. The only reason I play RE was zombies. I was so sad.

The Wild ARMs remake was terrible as well.
Don't worry ACF, even though you don't always load parts of the world map, or if you have text run off a box, or if it is next to impossible to see what ocean squares you've explored, you'll always have a home on my shelf. :(

oh man - is THAT what i have to look forward to when i finally get around to the remake!?

So.. Because they didn't look like zombies, the game was automatically shit? That's some awesome reasoning their man!
He did say the only reason he plays RE was the zombies. Without them being there, it's logical to assume he wouldn't be too enthused about it.

Besides, the topic title is most DISAPPOINTING game, not 'most shitty game'. You can be disappointed by a game and still think its okay.
I bought FFTA thinking it would be another masterpiece, like it's predecessor.

Boy, I was WRONG wasn't I?
Yoshi Touch 'n' Go for the DS. I was hoping it was a sequel to Yoshi's Island for the SNES. Nope, sure wasn't.

Borderlands
Is a recent example. I really needed it to be like CoD 4 only with a million guns and cool RPG Elements, along with an Oblivion-esque plot structure. Instead it was like Doom (1) only with a million guns and meh RPG Elements, as well as no real story, voice acting, or cutscenes. The real problem was the shooting, though. Once you've experienced how awesomely tight the firefights and controls of CoD 4 and onwards are, it is really hard to go back to any other shooter. At least for me.

You were wrong, but it was still a fun game. They should make a real sequel for it for the PSP. It should have no characters from other FF games though.

Because the feel of the game was entirely different, jackass.
I don't know why people don't like the more advanced zombies. I mean, after playing RE1, 2 and 3, RE4 was a welcomed change. The slow moving zombies are cool, yeah. Scary? Yea- No... The old RE games screamed speedrun.
As awesome as the same thing over and over with a few added features is, devs need to spice things up once in a while. But everyone is entitled to their opinion. RE4 was a disappointment for you and that's that.
Hmm...my standards are pretty low generally so I'm rarely disappointed so this may be a bit of a stretch for me...Honest to god I'd have to say Grand Theft Auto 4. Which is weird because it seems to be everyone's favorite now and I loved San Andreas, but besides the improved shooting and taxi system, I just found the game more of a chore than fun. And JESUS CHRIST people please stop calling me while I'm gunning down the innocent!
My biggest video game disappointment was Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass, WORST ENDING EVER! I spent like, 7 hours on that game and everything that happened in that game was just a dream. WORST RPG EVER!
what are you talking about dont you know that zelda isnt an rpg pls dont start another discusiion this is madness
I know SOME games where it is all just a dream at the end... it sucks indeed, but at the end of Phantom Hourglass what do you see on the horizon? So was it really just a dream? We don't know for sure. In addition to that PH is a great game which uses every feature of the DS.
And I think Zelda can be considered as ''an'' RPG by the way. ;-) RPG Adventure or something maybe...
Zelda games are nowhere near being considered RPGs.
In fact, a Zelda game is a perfect example of a an adventure game. Although small, there are differences between adventure games and RPGs. But that's not for this topic. Your most disappointing game: go.
Deacon, we had that a while ago it's an ar-pee-jee.
And not to kill this thread... The most disappointing game I played was... Harvest Moon: Magical Melody for the Wii. Instead of adding new content they just reduced the game by half. Good thing I don't own it ^.~
