rpgmaker 95 came out in 1997. it was made to be compatible with windows 95, hence the name.

rpgmaker 2k was released in 2000 though.

RM95 is the first, and definitely the shittiest. i do remember there were some pretty fun things made with it, though.
I've been making a sort of Rune Factory type game on it called ITONAMI for years (yes, my idea was harvest moon with fighting involved). The program is just too limited, and is the reason I'm constantly putting it back on hiatus. I don't wanna remake it having done so much on it already, but it'll probably be another 2-3 years before I end up with a finished project.

I recommend not using it unless you have a crapload of patience and want a REALLY oldschool feel to your game.
I dont think anyone plays rm95 games anymore.
