Yeah, it made pokemon famous on nintendo before stadium came out.
Pokemans? Never played any of them. Tried to on the emulators, but didn't bother playing past the third patch of grass.

Yeah, that sucked. The localization team was really lazy and didn't do any font programming for variable-width fonts or even skinny fixed-width fonts and just replaced the Japanese characters in the game's database with English ones. Apparently 4 characters is enough to describe something in Japanese.
It got really bad when you'd find something like a BrSd and you aren't sure if you had a Brazen Sodomite or a Bronze Sword.

First of all i should say that it is "pokemon", not getting past the third patch of grass is quite a shock to me. You don't know what your missing out on.
Alternatively, he could get Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker for DS, which is like Pokemon except fun.
