After absorbing a ton of tutorial/workflow videos I gave digital painting another shot and I'm pretty happy with the results. While it's not perfect, I can definitely feel the improvement.

Good chiaroscuro going on there! One thing to think about- especially in painting!- is how the firelight influences things. Right now, it looks like you've got a general ambient light, and no real influence from the flame.
I highly recommend taking a look at how such lighting works in real life: all you need is a match, candle, or lighter and possibly a mirror. (You can also supplement this with image searches; I love using Getty Images for this purpose!)

Thanks! Yeah, the flame turned out to be a late addition where It felt really cool to add, but I didn't take the proper steps to treat how the lighting of it would affect everything else. I should probably plan out the lighting a bit more! The background also sort of has its own ambient that I didn't really make use of.

I'm working on my Holmes and Watson designs for the Holmes vs. Moriarty. Sam Noir (the writer) and I, are working on the future while still chipping away on Issue 2. One potential is to make Holmes quit smoking, and go full colour.
Personally, I'm not stoked to do colour, as I enjoy black and white. But, it could be cool.

With a little bit of time with my poor abandoned tablet, I drew a thing. I can't color so I half-ass shade instead.
I may end up doing more things in monochrome like this.
