PROBLEM WITH A CUTSCENE.

I've tried to make an opening for my game where the main character simply says something before gameplay starts. I've placed an event just behind the party starting point that auto-starts with a message, but everytime I play test it it just loops endlessly and I can't play the game. How do I make the message only play once?

Use a switch. Have the event that plays a message turn on a switch, then create a new blank "page" for that event with the condition that the switch is turned on. The result is that the message only plays once. Switches are very important for keeping track of events internally.
Or put the "Erase Event" command at the end of the event, it will then display the message once and erase itself to never be seen again. That however is probably the sloppy way of doing it.
Yes please get into the habit of using switches, erase event iirc, only removes the event if you don't come back to the map it was in.
And the reason using erase event for this would be sloppy, is because it would only remain erased for as long as you stay on that map. If you leave and return to the map, the event will execute once more.
Switches is the way to go unless it won't be possible to return to the map

Yeah, just a switch would do it.
It'd be like
Auto-Start Event
<>Messg:Mmm... pancakes
<>Change Switch : -ON Set
<>

And then make another page on the same event
Player-Touch Event
And in the top part of the event window click the box beside Switch in the Event Condition square.
Select the switch you used on the first page, and this will create an empty event that will have no effect in gameplay.
Also, if it's on the ground, make sure the second page is below hero, otherwise it will be an invisible barrier.
