I've been playing since the 2d days. (three years ?) Don't worry about the graphics after six months you'll be able to read that shit like the matrix.

Funny, the DF site seems to be down right now.

Edit: The new release is out!

We actually have to irrigate underground dirt for farming now. It's been long enough since I played that I just dumped water into a chamber... and it's sitting there, at 4/7, evaporating glacially if at all... and I have no good way to pump it out. Hmm.

df is pretty incredible. i've gotten to the demons a few times, but i enjoy the early stages the most, where i can experiment with new designs and weird mechanisms. as for graphics, i usually just use a custom ascii set or something, because i've played the roguelike genre for like six years and i'm fairly good at all of them.

I started playing with the new DF. In a freezing territory with aquifier. Which was fortunate because I got through with ice although I thought I was done for when I didn't have any stone in the first six months.

Once I dug through the aquifier though I found a huge underground cavern filled with riches. I haven't gone to exploring it yet but man...

This game is too awesome to exist. My dwarves are struggling on in the tundra. It's a pretty calm tundra though. Nothing nasty has appeared yet.
