SORRY, BUT I LOVE THE IDEA OF MAKING FANGAMES.

No, no, despite the CHARACTER being the same, it is is not the same fight as the Ocarina boss fight in terms of game mechanics. Not even looking at Dark Link's LoP behavior vs OOT Dark Link behaviour, the mere fact that LoP is on a 2D plane means that they are different.

Dragging Sephiroth into your game does not mean that FF7 mechanics come along for the ride.

I'm just going to put my two cents here quickly. What you said about wanting to play Chrono Alter and the fact that you made this topic shows me that fangames can be sort of "unfair" to other games, since people who aren't "indie-gamers" are more than likely going to see a fangame and go for it immediatly, rather than trying something original.

Okay, no. To be honest, I don't feel like playing games at the moment (I didn't even get round to playing Paper Mario: TTYL. Best RPG I've ever played btw), but I downloaded it because people here were talking about it, not because it's a fangame. You don't see me digging up the archives of 'Final Fantasy: Sepiroth's Conclusion' (Ha, that would be the day). Still I checked it out for ten minutes though and despite some flaws with sprites and such, it already strikes me as a game worth playing over plenty of 'original' RPG Maker games. So no, it isn't 'unfair'.
Fan games are like normal games. If the creators put sweat, heart, and brains into them they can blow your fucking socks clean off. When the creators phone it in with something that feels like it was pulled from fanfiction.net you get

Personally I don't like the idea of making fangames. I'd rather see new worlds and not change the closure of previous games. But if the creators can make a good fun game then the fact that it's a fangame loses its importance.
Considering this has gone on for 8 pages, I'm pretty sure my viewpoints have probably been covered.

For that matter, I'll just say this:

I agree, I like making fan games. They tend to get more attention. All the resources are already there and it's up to you to effectively use them. I don't think C-Division and I could have made a game like SMRPG: The Seven Sages without having the abundance of Mario music and resources to use and shape the feel of the game.

While this is true, those same "indie gamers" who are being discriminated against also tend to be the ones who will hold fangames to much higher expectations than they would to an original game. Not saying whether this is right or wrong, but I don't think either group is completely the victim here.
