EDCHUY GAMEPLAY BLOG

You know, I was thinking (sorry to hijack your thread with this edchuy, but it is the greatest example):
We have blogs for game developers, but why not have blogs for game players? We have about a half a dozen (semi) active "Here's What Games I'm Going to Play" threads in the Game Discussion right now, so there is a demand for this feature. And we keep talking about attracting more game players - let's give them some tools!
Not a bad idea!

Sorry dudes. I'm full of something, but it isn't good ideas.
Well, if something like that existed it would definitely balance out the developer-centric tools that are available to them and are virtually useless to gameplayers. No problem, lending a little space for a little brainstorming, however insane it might be.

The lack of popularity of "What RMN game are you playing" makes me wonder if this is a good idea.

The problem with that thread is the same as with the of "What ___ are you ____" topics. It kind of serves as a random dump for whatever people feel like posting about what they're doing, thinking, etc. or to comment on what others have posted. Unlike the entries for Blogs in the gamepages, for the most part, nothing of real significance is said and, most importantly, nobody is in charge of them.
Now a Blog centered around a particular player could serve not only him better in terms of organization, but also it allows any other players or developers who might be interested in what games he/she might be playing to find out what they're up to. It also serves as a hub where people who know I am playing or have played their games can communicate with the gameplayers.

I like having these blogs in the main forum though, otherwise I'd forget about them.
That's probably because you have become used to seeing them there. That's not to say they couldn't be under the Blogs page. I wonder if people actually visit that page that often. Well, it wouldn't be unconceivable to subcribe to a player blog, the same way you know subscribe to games. In the latter case, I would rather subscribe to individual developers whose work I would like to follow, instead of having to figure out what games they have made and subscribing to each of them.
Sadly, I don't think anything will come out of this discussion, but one can only dream ...
Just finished beta-testing To Arms!. Tomorrow, the first I'll do is write my report so I can submit it to MaxMcGee. Last night, I retook playing Carpe Diem: Chapter 1, finishing Episode 1. I will continue playing it tonight.
Another thing I forgot to mention in my last update: Still haven't heard from mongoosezxc about his game. My PM is still unread after 10 days.

Hey edchuy, are you still up for reviewing Fallen Heroes?
If not, that's fine, but we'd appreciate the feedback.

Yeah, I will get to it. I just need to organize my gameplaying activities. I'm beta-testing this game, which I know realize will take me at least a while other week. I also have some reviews pending writing. If I may ask, how long is it, SH? If it's not too long, I should be able to play it one of these nights, with the review following that. Thanks for the reply.
edchuy, I just want to commend you for taking it upon yourself to provide feedback to so many people. Just don't burn yourself out!
Regarding kentona's "gameplay blog" idea, I think reviews serve this function well already.

Thanks. Don't worry about that. You probably want to listen to yourself. I don't see any Game Gale judge doing what you have in terms of writing reviews. In essence, I choose in this blog what games to play and may rarely take requests. Playing Game Gale games is just one of those things I committed to but will do gradually.
Regarding the gameplay blog idea, I don't quite think reviews quite serve the same function for me, since I don't necessarily always provide them for the games I play. Also, sometimes I opt to give some feedback instead which might be through a private PM. Perhaps reviews serve the function well for those who review everything they play.
The problem with reviews and feedback is generally they tell the developer of the game that I have played his/her game after the fact. I could announce in the discussion of the game that I'm gonna play it, but that can get tedious to do. That's why I have resorted to this topic. It's not quite as organized as a real game blog, but it does serve in a pinch. It also serves for me to keep track of what I have played and all related activities.
