CloseI have to say, suddenly getting a link to MotW's Tropes page one day right out of the blue was FAR more satisfying than doing it myself ever would have been. I know how I interpret my own work, the thrill was seeing other people pick it apart.
That said, actually catching people in the act of making their own pages is tough. I don't think anyone would be dumb enough to use their same alias there and here. But then again, a creator promoting himself and his own work probably comes off as pretty obvious unless a lot of restraint is shown.

For the record I knew this topic was going to burst into flames long ago, which is why it took me over a month to actually post the idea. Thanks for proving me right by leading it off with a full page of arguing.
If you don't like the rules/guidelines I posted, feel free not to participate. =)
Or feel free to make pages for your own games/do everything else you said to do is more like it.
If anyone doesn't like the rules, they're just going to break them, not refrain from participating.
Anyway maybe I'm wrong and nothing bad will come of this. I will acknowledge that possibility. Stranger things have happened.

Visions & Voices has been getting 20-30 downloads/day ever since being on TVTropes.
It's a good game, though.
NOTHING is happening because you guys apparently suck at doing.
Things to do:
-Make good VXP games
-Release them outside of incestpool

You know, I thought this would be a fun community event where people would get together, discuss games they liked, work on something to share with the community, and it would highlight several exemplary games as well as have the added bonus of bringing additional publicity to RMN.

Did this happen immediately? I'm just really curious about the impact that TV Tropes can have on this.

Well you know, most people agree that I don't suck and that I am in fact awesome. There's a lot of misplaced hate for RPG Maker out there but it's mostly that I don't want to release anything super-publically without being absolutely 100% sure that I am putting the best possible foot forward.
I mean incestpool is not a very nice frigging place either so I guess I don't have a leg to stand on in not trying to throw my games at a wider audience. (And I have been doing that in my own really oblique way for some time. And in fact, my games and their fans have a way of turning up weird, obscure places that I never put them. (Like this site that was apparently the czechoslovakian equivalent of Home of the Underdogs had Backstage on it, while a few different people I don't know have tried to start forum RPs and the like based on the Iron Gaia universe.) But it's silly to avoid leaving incestpool due to the fear that people might be dicks to me, because people here are dicks on a daily basis, although at least they are the dicks that I know.
Anyway I was more asking approximately how long your game was on TV Tropes before you started putting up those amazing numbers.

V&V is doing well relatively, but it still is worth about, oh, nothing. I want something to be proud of, not "oh a little more than shitty RM* games."

I imagine that anything that will come of this will be well-intentioned, since it is not like the extreme-lets-make-RM-gamepages people (if they exist) were barred from doing it before this topic.
I think this bears repeating since there appears to be fears that this will turn into some cesspool.

Hm. That's not what I meant, I worded it badly. I like V&V, otherwise I wouldn't have promoted it. I just want more. Lots more. I am greedy and want actual success, and V&V is too weird/unpolished and we are too unknown to get that for karsu and I.

I wanted to make an RPG Maker game that would be mentioned in the same sentence as A Blurred Line.

I'm not really sure why anyone would want to do their own game. I feel like these TV trope articles basically just point out why your game is trite and unoriginal by breaking it up into specific categories. It kinda takes the fun out of some of these games.
But that's just me.
