MOG, that sounds really cool! You are wrong on ONE PART: FFX-2 stacks combo damage. This is why the Thief and Gunner dresspheres are <3 (Thief gets two hits/attack, Gunner has no charge time before attacking). Only for attacks, though, so not as intricate/awesome-sounding.
...that post made me want to stop playing The Last Remnant and switch to BoFIV before going to camp. But I also have a game to make. :<
How long is BoFIV? Is it challenging/at least difficult enough to stay interesting?
EDIT: Also, the skill combining stuff sounds fun. I've always liked that in Suikoden and Phantasy Star.

Ah, that is right. I forgot about FFX-2,s stacking thing.
Breath of Fire IV is pretty good sized. It's long enough to keep things interesting all the way to the end without wearing out it's welcome, and it has 'Clear game' files (that are chronologically before the final fight) so you can keep going back to the final boss again and again and some clear game bonuses as well.
It's reasonably challenging. There are a few bosses that are really tricky (and a few optional superenemies), but the battles always have something to offer; a lot of the enemies, and almost all of the bosses, (as in the case in Breath of Fire III) have some cool 'gimmick' to them, for example, a golem that has a really cool club for one of your characters if you manage to kill it before it literally breaks the club on your head, monsters who have friends and boost each other up (or get enraged when you kill the other monster), monsters that give more experience if you inflict a certain status on them, etc etc.
Battles reward you for using cool strategies and you have to keep an eye open!
Also every one in a while you gain control of that badass that Neophyte posted (Fou Lu) who is literally 50 levels above you and the game makes a point of how powerful he is. Playing as him is very fun as well because he has a lot of stuff to play with (and curbstomps the shit out of everything) but even then there are some unexpected challenges too!
Also if you're a fan of customization, BOF IV (and III as well) has the Master system, people all around the world you can find that teach you skills, but most importantly, alter your stat growth from leveling up. You can switch around masters at will with whoever character you want (obviously have to find them first), so you can slowly watch as your mage goes from being smacked in the face and dying to a spellcasting tank slowly and slowly because she's under a master that raises the DEF points she gets every time she levels up. Of course there are setbacks to this as well because that same master probably lowers the Magic you get from leveling up as well, so you have to manage everyone carefully if you want to get the best out of it!
Of course the example above is one out of many, considering there are almost 20 Masters and 6 characters.

BoF4 is a game where you play around in it in a field of flowers, pillows, and puppies and every time you hurt yourself the game is quick to give you a bandaid and apologize. After half the game it stops giving you the hand up. Then you bump into the first God-dog at which point the flowers turn carnivorous, the pillows get filled with nails, the puppies decide to start teething on your face, and the game decided to kick our your knees and hit you with a baseball bat and doesn't let up. Eventually you'll get to the last boss where the game finally lets up long enough to replace the bat with a bulldozer while screwing your mom.
tl;dr BoF4 is easy for most of the game then it suddenly decides to become hard

GRS is right, haha. About in the middle of the game or so, the game assumes that you know what you're doing and promptly takes a baseball bat to your kneecaps. Those giant ass ROBOT DICE in that one place (you guys know what I'm talking about) come to mind. However it's never too hard, the difficulty is always managable if you're intelligent.
Also there is a ton of shit to do, from fishing (which starts off pretty boring but the rewards are GREAT as you get better and better), to raising a colony of fairies that shit gemstones.

well
fuck The Last Remnant
I do not approve of this statement! (Unless you were misinformed enough to get the Xbox shitty beta instead of the PC version)
However BoF4 is really sweet, yes. I had forgotten about many of those things until Mog's writeup brought it all back in regards to clever enemy design and the like. So good.
Also I and II are the greatest random boss fight in the history of gaming. THEY ARE DICE GUARDING AN ANCIENT TOMB THAT LITERALLY KICK YOUR ENTIRE PARTY IN THE FACE FOR MASSIVE DAMAGE

IIRC, I'm stuck in some area that looks like SNES/GBA mode 7. (I haven't played BoF4 in years.)
This is easily the worst part of the game. Try to locate smoke rising, that's where the goal is.
Tonfa: No, I have the PC version, and I'm really enjoying it. I'm sure Karsuman and chaos will be glad to hear me shut up about it, though!
<Craze> Oh god somebody just asked me for copper

That sounds like a setup for a hiimdaisy comic
