SAI PLAYS YOUR GAMES
Posts
Now that I'm out for the summer, I want to get out and start playing a lot more RMN games, especially ones that have gone under the radar or otherwise haven't received much feedback. So, I'm offering to review any game hosted on here with a few terms and conditions:
1) I will only be playing complete games. No betas or demos. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis for episodic games.
2) I promise to play each game for at least 2 hours in order to get a feel for it. If your game holds my interest, I'll continue playing it, but I won't force myself to keep playing it if I'm not into it.
3) Only submit your game if you want feedback. The main reason I'll be writing a review will be to give you tips and suggestions on how to improve.
4) To submit a game, reply in this thread with a link to the game profile and a one-sentence pitch about your game. I'll be basing the order I play the games on how much the pitch interests me.
That being said, I look forward to playing your games!
Finished
1) Mana Conquest - Ramza
2) Complete Chaos - Yeaster
Now Playing
Backstage - Max McGee
Games To Play
1) Visions and Voices - Craze
2) Vindication - LockeZ
3) Action 52 RMN - A lot of people
4) Wonders Inc. - Glue
5) Pokemon Hunter 4 - Halibabica
6) Carlsev Saga I - Deckiller
7) Think Outside the Box - Pokemaniac

I don't want to start shit, I really don't, but...who are you again? Why do you have so many demanding conditions that must be met in order for you to play our fun/free games and/or participate in the site by writing reviews, something anyone can and should do all the time? I mean I was half expecting to see...
Also...
um...
5) You will pay me $25. Major credit cards only.

People tend to make more than one project, Max. Also, maybe Sai doesn't want to deal with shit and just play what he deems worthwhile?
<Sai> Hi, I want to review some complete games that haven't had a turn in the spotlight yet.
<Max> FUCK YOU
EDIT: Max, I don't think Sai spends much time on RMN but I know I've seen him quite a bit on other sites. Believe or not, people do get experience at not-RMN (they actually have a userbase, for one).

I still think there is an implicit contradiction in the two sentences that I quoted.
Also, what is up with this "I will play your game if it meets x, y, and z criteria" thing lately.
I am kind of partial to reviewers who will play your game because it is...a game.
I do not like the whole idea that the burden is on the developers. Hundreds of people are working tirelessly here to release games for free. Some of them are good (or even great) and the rest are still free and made in good faith by people in their limited free time. In general I think this community needs a major attitude adjustment. No one should think that they are doing anyone a favor by spending an hour to play the games that someone else spent five hundred hours making. It should be exactly the reverse.
I recognize that I am in the minority here. 90% of you are probably about to disagree with me very strongly. Since I've acknowledged that my opinion here is a wacky outlier, and that I might be the only one here who feels this way, any chance I can avoid a lynching?

I agree with Max. But I don't think the OP was as arrogant as he made it look.
And I can also see the contradition. Incomplete games need feedback, suggestions for improvement. Complete games... not really.

He can indeed review or not review whatever he wants. As can anyone else.
But no one else is posting a topic asking for games to be pitched specifically to them, for them to accept or reject. They're just reviewing the games they feel like reviewing and not reviewing the games they don't feel like reviewing. In fact, aren't we specifically not supposed to be plugging/whoring our games on the forums anymore? Isn't that what gamepages are for?
The other thing that seems strange to me is that with all of these standards and requirements, Sailerius has never reviewed a single game on this site. Fallen-Griever has reviewed 20 grojillion games and has no special requirements to consider your game for review. I'm just saying.
Obviously Sailerius is free to review or not review whatever he wants and people are free to react however they like to his disposition and manner.
Anyway, I am done here. Everyone go about your business.

Sorry if I came across as sounding arrogant. That wasn't my intention. I just don't like reviewing demos because they're a work in progress. I know that personally, whenever I put out a demo, I know that a lot of areas are lacking polish so it's redundant if someone were to review it and tell me that "area B needs to be cleaned up/is buggy/is empty." Generally, with a complete game, the creator has the game polished to his satisfaction, so reviews can make him aware of flaws that he wasn't aware of.
I'm not making a bunch of demands. I thought it would be fun.
five years old now, and still no review on here.
Mana Conquest is the first game I ever completed, and while it's dated by most standards, I'd appreciate someone saying something about it, even if it's bad.
edit:
I don't think he came off as arrogant. Not all of us have all the time in the world, and he just wants to make sure he's not wasting his time reviewing something that is not in it's final iteration/may have already been fixed/changed/canceled.

Stop the drama, Max. The preconditions are reasonable enough and whether you know the person or not has no bearing on anything at all.

I'm playing it now and I'm stuck on the soldier's training. I'm at the question where it asks the name of the town. It is Dera, isn't it? Is there a specific space I need to put at the end? There are quite a few empty space characters. I had no problems getting Eddie.
Also, one of the quiz questions is "What is your last name?" Seriously?
My first game submitted to this site, its a short puzzle game with an increasing difficulty level.

Ooh, a review thread! Time to fire the PH cannon!
Here's the deal: my first three games are all complete, but they also all suck and are well-reviewed. Feedback on them wouldn't really help me much.
My 4th game, however, is in development and has a fair-length demo on which feedback would DEFINITELY help (because there's still time, oh so much time, to fix and change things).
Finally, all my games are essentially clones of each other, so in that sense, it doesn't matter which you play (they're all the same!). Though I'm trying to fix things with the 4th that were painful and bad with the 1st three.
All that said, here's the pitch!
Would you like to play my game, Pokémon Hunter*? It's a series!

I'll give it a shot.
This completed game that I had a part in making is really itching for a review; in fact, it has so much content the it is almost like sixteen different games, yet it still has no review!

I think you posted the wrong link.

I was still working on my pitch.
Edit: In my defense I had it fixed within 30 seconds of the original post.
