RPG MAKER 2003 NOT WORKING ON WINDOWS 7

Posts

Pages: 1
I recently decided that since I can't work with RPG Maker on my main computer, I'd start using my families laptops whenever I can, to at last get some work done on my project. Problem is, RM2k3 wont let me create projects on one of them. It works fine on one laptop (The one with Vista), but on the one with Windows 7 just brings up an error saying "Project creation could not be completed".

I know there's is a way around this, but I'm not exactly sure what it is. Any help?

Also, I can't just use the one with Vista, because it's NEVER around the house.

Try to run it with administrator powers.
How do you run it with administrator powers???
Right click it and select 'Run as Administrator'. To set this in default, go into 'Properties' and select 'Run this program as Administrator' in the Compatibility tab.
Also, I recommend that you right click the program file and make it compatible with Windows Service Pack 2. Then check off disablescalling on High DPI settings. This way Windows 7 will treat it like a weaker program. I ran into a lot of problems until I did this, mostly with map files not appearing in the project folder.
Weird, I've been able to just run RPG Maker 2003 with UAC on without needing to admin it.
I got my rm2k3 to work using the admin powers on my Vista. I don't see how it wouldn't work for Windows 7.

Yea same here, I run Rm2k3 with Windows 7 Pro with no problems. Also I believe there is a update Microsoft released a while back for Win 7 to be more compatible with older programs. You could always try updating it if you haven't in a while if your still having problems.

Running in compatibility mode often seems seems to need special permission each time, which is really annoying..

th eone thing wiht runiong it in copatibility mode is the need to use admin

You might want to edit that a little bit more :P

Just put your 2k3 installation in a folder that has write access by default (eg., C:\Users\YourName) instead of putting it in the program files folder. It should work without compatibility mode or admin privileges.

Anyone have a solution to get it working in Windows 8? None of the above works. :<
I can get it to work on Windows 8, and in fact I have yet to run into any program that doesn't work on Windows 8.

Is the same error as the OP when you try to create a project? Can you open existing projects ok? Does it give any problems when then trying to save in that existing project?

When I try to run RM2k3 or any games made with it, it just crashes with no error message.
I also have the same problem...It doesn't show my old projects.
(and other people's projects)
"Just crashes" - the error message is probably in the event logs then. Use the "Event Viewer" (search in start menu) to find it.
