Two words: Hell yeah.

I really wanted to get into the original Deus Ex because it seemed so promising, but I found the controls weird and the graphics a bit distracting, so I eventually gave in. I was looking forward to this.
If you completely fell in love with the music in the trailer like I did (and apparently a lot of other people, enough people for Eidos to actually recognize this and do this), here you go.

Man I am so excited for this game
Alright I've heard a lot of good stuff about this game from E3. So I'm getting my hopes up. But I still have a distinct feeling that the hope is going to be shattered.

Some gameplay footage was leaked from this.. My God it looks good. Everything from that trailer was shown to be real, even the wall punch neck snap at the end. It's a lot more open then I thought it would be as well & the graphics and way you play is very well thought out.

Got a glimpse of the dialogue system as well, just reminds me of Mass Effect 2 a lot but instead of standing still they're actually doing stuff. The whole transitioning from first to third person was actually working, they also said you can upgrade your weapons and what not through out the game.

So far I'm impressed with this game, BTW the leaked footage was taken down pretty fast so, you might have trouble finding it.
Yeah, I did get a chance to see it. It does look pretty awesome, and it seems like they're keeping with the original spirit of Deus Ex while adding in new stuff as well. I especially like the fact that they said that those steal kills weren't scripted at all and you can do them anywhere, which fits with the extremely open ended and fluid nature on how Deus Ex lets you approach things. I hope the world is as big and as open ended as before as well.

One thing I'm really interested in is seeing how they'll handle the 'you can do anything you want' thing with the fact that this game is a prequel and it'll have to fit in with established events.

Well the original had quite a bit of that but the game itself had a fairly linear progression anyway. Basically no matter what you did the "big picture" stayed the same. (and the big picture is really all that matters from a "fitting in" perspective)

I mean you couldn't exactly side with the bad guys in the original (I know because I stayed loyal to unatco for as long as possible and was about to kill my own brother for betrayal at one point but the game wouldn't allow me to :)

The "do what you want" is how you approach the levels themselves. Deus Ex is/was a game that basically provided you with a map, a goal, and a myriad of different ways to accomplish said goal. (though the goal always had to be accomplished)
Oh, absolutely. The charm about Deus Ex is that there is an overarching story and narrative that the game follows, that you can't shift around in a major way (which isn't a bad thing at all, because the storyline is the selling point of the game), but there are so many minute things about it that you can alter on a micromanagement level (for example, you can't kill Paul for betrayal, but you can certainly leave him to die) that makes the experience all the worthwhile. Even in the original game, there are STILL paths I haven't taken to complete a given task.

I just hope this game keeps that spirit going.
