Now I want to follow some poor sucker around tossing small rocks at him while yelling "LIGHTNING BOLT!!!11!"
I am pretty sure they are balls of foam. Rocks would hurt like hell!
Also, I think LARPing would be pretty fun if you avoiding magic and shit, since it is going to be lame no matter how you go about doing it (unless you actually can shoot lightening out of your hands without hurting anyone!). I mean, you could have stuff like "laying of hands" healing and stuff but it couldn't be the typical D&D nonsense.
Let's meet up and LARP our way through a big city. Someone can follow us around and be the Dungeon Master and give us quests and we can all pray we don't get beat up.

Somehow when I think of LARPing, I think of it as a 'different genre' of whatever kind of thing paintball falls into. I've never LARPed, but I've been paintball is a lot of fun. There's a team element (probably comprised of your friends), trust, planning, reflexes, instincts, a bit of pain, awareness, and a lot of adrenaline. Basically, it's an action packed way to legally get to shoot people.
When I see LARPing, I also see a lot of 'action' going on, but unlike something like paintball, there is also the actual roleplaying element to it as well, isn't there? More so than the action. Like, everyone plays a character, right? That part always seemed kinda interesting.

They always show battles and stuff in LARP videos, but most of it is just being in character and talking to other people being in character, near as I can tell. Like, 80/20 just RPing to battling.

Depends on the LARP really. There's boffer-larps (like the Sotahuuto I linked to) which is all battles all the time. Then there's the other kind.
I guess though that the in-character talking probably doesn't lend itself to great videos since most likely people generally are as bad actors as they are fighters. (and since LARPing isn't really a spectator sport most of the time the only things being filmed is goofing around with the weapons in the "off" area)
And what is this? A new page without new videos?
These costumes are all fucking insane...

Lightning Bolt.
also i don't care about larping but am 100% in favor of homemade goblin costumes
I've been in one before. It's really not that bad- it was actually a fun way to exercise more than anything. But there's always a couple of Dbags that take it too seriously or cheat that ruin it for everyone else.
And yes, the lightning bolts are foam chunks wrapped in a bit of cloth.
I haven't been in a while, and when I do go nobody wears outfits that ridiculous. Except the guy who wore the zebra head...
Don't ask.
