I just finished the game on the human route(I have already beaten the non-hum one) and realized it's one of the most enjoyable games I've ever played.
What do you guys think about it,I loved its sense of exploration and the fact you could go around kicking and fighting almost everyone in town and would love to see that done in an RM2K/3/XP/VX title.
I ask because here because the game doesn't get very good reviews and would like to see you what you guys think about it.
And if you have beaten it on both routes which do you prefer.

Was never released in New Zealand. It's Tri-Ace so I'm sure the reviews were fair, seriously they haven't made a good game since Star Ocean The Second Story.
not released in the UK either so i have zilcho opinions on the matter, liked the idea of kicking people though

I've almost picked it up several times, but the negative reviews always held me back. I read more about it on tv tropes and it seemed more interesting, but now I'm having a harder time seeing it around.
I was going to say Valykrie Profile but I couldn't remember which came out first so I stuck with Star Ocean 2. I watched a few clips of the gameplay, battle wise it doesn't look too bad, everything else though haha.
Darken you should pick the game up from gamestop,I think they're selling it for $10 there.
One of the coolest things about the game is how comedy driven it is,but,it also does have a serious plot.
Another cool thing is that on one part of the game you can choose to fight on the non-humans side or the humans side and they're both completely different.
The battle system is a simplified star ocean, but for some weird reason I enjoy it a lot more.
theres also 177 characters to recruit which is even more then suikodens roster. The game isn't perfect but it sure is a lot of fun and for those Valkrye profile and Star Ocean fans, you can get the character lenneth from valkrye profile to join your team aswell as an armor to transforms the main character into fayt leingod from star ocean 3.
So the game has a cool plot, fanservice,is fun and has great characters whats not to love?

Oh God Star Ocean 3 was a piece of shit. Who the fuck wants to be fayt in another game let alone the one he came from. I just wanted to say that.
People hated Star Ocean 3,since when.
I know the plot wasn't great,or good,or even decent but I'm pretty sure their main focus was the battle system which was done really well.

I've only played a translated rom of Star Ocean on the Super Famicom, I guess that was the only good game of that series.
Needless to say, I'll look this up when I get the chance.

Radiata Stories is a fairly enjoyable game. It's practically Suikoden combined with some battle mechanics from "Tales of"/"Star Ocean" series. On that note, I do wish the battles were a bit more complex and alot less repetitive. I was also very disappointed with the soundtrack. I know Noriyuki Iwadare could have done better. (Grandia series, and Phoenix Wright 3 for example). The length of the game is fairly short if the player doesn't want to recruit everyone. Everything else (Graphics and Story) was pretty much okay.
In all honesty what primarily set the game apart from other standard JRPG's was the "small" mechanics. For instance, the protagonist can practically kick almost anything (other then walls) and get some sort of reaction. You can even kick NPCs and they'll get mad accordingly to the point where you may have to face them in battle. Also, because of the Day/Night system, each NPC in the game follow their own schedule. For example, During the morning an NPC may be at the church, while in the afternoon they could be chatting with their neighbors and at night they could be found getting drunk at the bar. It's a nice little touch which greatly adds to the game.
7/10. Outside of completing the recruitment book and playing the game as the other side, there is little replay value. You can expect 1-2 replays before you never touch this game again.
P.S: I loved Star Ocean 3! (minus Fayt) I can't say the same about Star Ocean 4 though...
