BATTLECHAR(A)S are by far the single most frustrating aspect of rm2k3. They make me want to vomit shards of my pelvis.

Has ANYONE on here managed to successfully make their own battlechars that look good AND work with the RTP system, as in... With the "battle weapons"? I'm using the RTP as a guideline and I refuse to use rips from other games.

Advice in doing this would be great.

I don't use "battle-weapons". I created weapon animations in the "normal" animation section instead.

Whether or not these are "good" is completely objective. The animations themselves aren't great, but they do fit the style I am going for and that is what is important to me.

I love Cheska :P You really did yourself a service in stylizing Riot Grrl the way you did.

If I ever do another project I hope to make something a lot more simple, graphically speaking... Otherwise it looks like RECOLOUR CITY for me. :/

Honestly, I just don't like that method at all. It's all good if you're making a fangame because there's tonnes of cool rips of nice animations out there. But otherwise you still need to be able to draw something/animate from scratch... Which is the whole problem in the first place.
That method has nothing to do with fangames or not... And it's superior in many ways in my opinion. (forever)

Opinions on recolour? (Ignore the bottom one for now, didn't notice those stray pixels at first)

Dingy is the name of the game (well actually it's Project Tunguska, but it's all the same to me.)

I don't actually think the RTP battlecharas are THAT bad style-wise. There's potential :/

Like I said on your game's page, NewBlack, you really shouldn't use RTP-styled characters if you're going to try and create a "horror" or "serious" setting. Take the charset you decide to use for your hero and make battle-characters out of that!


Seriously? They're even worse! Well, I tend to think so anyway (considering I'm also using RTP-style charsets).

This is not the finished product, I know I'm gonna keep coming back to this particular aspect of development over and over again before I'm happy with it... I think I'll try wiping that stupid grin off the char's face first. I actually kinda like the RTP style... Not the characters themselves, just the size/placement/animations.

We'll see Griever, I might come over to your side if the pay-off is good. I'm willing to give it a try at some point.
I never liked RTP style, but that is just a personal preference. I really liked the FFV battlechars, and edits/recolors of them.

I have a raft of WeaponAnims suitable for FFV sized battlechars, if you are interested.
I've been making my own weapon-sets for the most part so far.. Mainly because people don't really make a tonne of guns for RPGs :P Any chance of a preview?

I might be able to be converted... It's not TOO late.

It would probably just be fastest to download my game Hero's Realm - all the resources are in there.
I've made my own battle characters for my game. They didn't look very good with the rtp but...

I'll agree, rtp battle characters are not all that great, especially for a horror game. Kentona's are probably good ones to use as a base to make your own.
How's this for RTP? :P



Too creepy? The faces are all identical but they all look different like some kind of optical illusion... I quite like where this is going though.

Xanedil, I like what you've done there. If my game wasn't so... Weird.. I'd probably do something like that myself.

What is it exactly that everyone dislikes about the RTP chars? Or does everyone hate something different? :P
That's a great looking edit! I'd ditch the Cloud hair, though. Or at least lop off that big spike.
