Alright, so I know nothing about RPG Maker. I tried to use it once and it was too glitched up to really do much.

So if I wanted to make a game similar to Final Fantasy VI, what should I do? What version of RPG Maker should I download and what should I start with?

Thanks

Any of the rpgmakers will do the trick. Especially rm2k3.

Read the helpfile. VIGOROUSLY. Don't even come out of your room until you know EVERYTHING the helpfile says.

EVERYTHING.

Doing so will prevent you from coming back here asking for simple things like "how do make switch??!" and you'll probably turn out pretty good at rpgmaker.

EDIT:

Infact, I have a series of tutorials, written by Gemin-eye for his RM2K Helpfile that you can look at. Posted in order of difficulty.

Switches Tutorial

Chest without a key

Locked Chest with a random item

Npcs and the Key plus Adding NPC to party

Fork Conditions and the Random Items in Chests
Or just refer to it first whenever you have a question, the help file probably have an answer 95% of the time when it comes to the fundamentals. I doubt reading it in one sitting will allow you to absorb it correctly.

Also, rm2k3 would be the best bet, since the DBS is FF6, including the slowness.

is this a real life experience?

No. It's a figure of speech.
Steampunk is probably an accurate style. It's gonna be based in the FF7 world, but I want the style of the game to be similar to FF6-style graphics and gameplay (like a traditional RPG).

Thanks!
