I stopped at GameCrazy on my way home from work as I've been on the lookout for a copy of Suikoden V. As I'm waiting to be helped, I notice they have Skies of Arcadia Legends for the GameCube. Score.

I'm helped and the guy looks up Suikoden on the computer and says they have a new copy, actually. So he gets it from behind the desk and gives it to me. I immediately notice it is not factory sealed. Whatever. I pay for it and get out of there.

Last night at 11 PM I figure I'd try some of it out. I open it up. There is NO game manual or any papers inside of it.

There is also no game DVD, but a blank CDR. I am going back there today at lunch and am going to raise hell.
NICE.

RAISE SOME HELL!

That game was so terrible. I think I lasted about 15 minutes :(

That is incredibly awesome. Tragic, too, but awesome. I don't think I've ever heard of this happening! If you want we can discuss we lending you my copy if you can't find it.
I would raise some hell as well if they did that to me.

Luckily something like that has never happened to me.
This is just too coincidental.

Just the other day I "returned" a Suikoden V game, but I slipped a blank CDR in there instead! Suckers!

I just got back from their store. The employee was pretty stunned that another employee had gone that far to steal a copy of Suikoden V. He called another store and they are bringing another copy for me. I will be picking it up on my way home.

That is pretty rad. For me the closest thing to getting shafted by a store was when I rented Saga Frontier in 1999 or something. There was this really weird circular hole on the bottom of the disc. It was like something melted the plastic into a perfect hole. Naturally, the game wouldn't work. It turned out to be a blessing because as I found out several years after that, Saga Frontier is a terrible game.

Saga Frontier is a terrible game.

I am inclined to disagree because while it is a terrible game by conventional metrics, it's terrible on purpose so

I dunno if it was on purpose.

Also, I still have not received my replacement copy. They are shipping a copy from another store.
:o

I noticed a lot of games aren't factory sealed anymore (HMV) but I always make sure they put a game inside the case. Good thing your game shop is replacing your copy. I know I'd never get it as they'll just think I've replaced it with a blank disc.

I had a Wal*Mart staffperson open up my Oblivion box once... the box was beat up and the seal was broken (it was the last copy within a reasonable distance, however). Thankfully, the CDs were all there! After forty-eight hours of patching and hacking and lying to my computer, I was able to play Oldblivion.

I think a similar incident occured when I bought Theme Park and my mother didn't want me buying a beat-up box (I was like four or something). That too required hacking so that the mouse worked in unison with the graphics displaying!

STORY SUMMARY: If bad cases have the disks intact, you need to spend a long time fixing them before you can use them.

Oh, and SuikoV is a pretty cool game. The prince is a fag, though. :<

Truer words have never been spoken! Get about 3-5 hours into the story and you wont care about the sorry prince anymore though as you learn it is best to experience the story through eyes of most of the other characters...
WIP, I hope I get to hear you rave about how much you like how the story unfolds, I thought it was amazing. I can't believe I almost let this game rot on my shelf based on my first two hours into it.

What if you like fags?

Then you're a fag-loving fag.

Illustrious: Yes, the presentation is pretty great. I actually haven't finished yet but I'm very far in. Every scene has been like WOAH COOL.

And there's also that early-on double twist that basically makes you sit down and play for another 20 hours. WIP: Do not start this game when you have life to attend to.

That said, the difficulty fluctuates really harshly. Whatever, that's what everybody's favorite rune is for!

If by "fluctuate harshly" you mean "the entire game is so easy that you start to seriously wonder why there are battles in the game at all" then I agree with you. Seriously, this game would have been one of the most perfect games ever if not for the fact that every single battle in the entire game (except for the final bosses) was not a complete auto-battle of a joke. But because of that it was actually really boring most of the time I played it, and while I like the game a lot I can't even begin to imagine playing through it again.

I loved the extremely easy battles of the PSX Suikodens because I played them on ePSXe can could frame skip past them in an instant so I could get to the good parts like wandering around my rad castle, finding characters, and listening to the soundtrack.

They'd probably just irritate me in Suikoden V, though.
Aw. It's not that bad guys. 1,000,000 times better than Suikoden IV. Did you know that you can recruit some people in different ways? I played though it thrice so far. ^.^

Getting all the endings - there's more than five! XP

Sucks that they ripped you off, though. I'd have chucked a tizzy!

Well to me number-crunching is intrinsic to having fun while playing an RPG like Suikoden or Final Fantasy. If the gameplay systems are boring and/or if the combat is not sufficiently challenging (level grind does not count as challenging) then while playing the game I can't help but wonder if I'd be having more fun playing something else.

Liberty: Holy crap yes this game is so much better than Suikoden IV.

The game is easy throughout, but I remember one dungeon that was like WTFHARDZOMGDIE. I only had enough money to buy one super-armor... so I equipped it on Leon and used that battle tactic where everybody is behind her in this giant line. It was pretty ridiculous.
How does one "chuck" a "tizzy" anyway?
