CloseThere is going to be a Sonic RPG for the DS. It may come out in 2008. It is being made by Bioware.

You probably knew all of that already, but now the name's been confirmed and details are coming in, so now is as good a time as any to discuss it. Will it bomb terribly, or does it actually stand a chance of being decent? Could this be the greatest Sonic game of all time? Probably not, but at any rate the results will be interesting to watch.

BioWare is one awesome firm, so I have high hopes for this. Very surprising that BioWare took this game on - they had state previously that they wanted to work on their own IPs.
Bioware has a very good track record - as hard as it may be to imagine for a Sonic RPG (or even a Sonic game, at this point in time), I think it has a solid shot of being an excellent game.

I don't know. Sonic the RPG is a pretty bad idea to begin with but when you combine that with BioWare which is a pretty unlikely choice and the subtitle for the game (I think it was SONIC AND THE DARK BROTHERHOOD or something) I really don't think this has any chance of being remotely good. Although if the game is based off of the American TV series it would at least have a really cool dystopian atmosphere.
Yeah, this one's odd. I don't have a DS, so I wouldn't be able to check it out yet. Sonic and the Dark Brotherhood just makes me think he was in Oblivion and murdered someone and got contacted by Lucien Lachance and is now accepting contracts to murder various people. Like others, if I had a DS, I'd probably just get this out of curiosity. Or maybe just wait for youtube videos of it and watch those instead.

The title is actually "Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood".
The name isn't exactly inspiring, or original for that matter. But RPGs have never been known to have killer titles, in my memory at least.
When you think about it, a Sonic RPG makes more than a bit of sense. The franchise has been building up ranks and ranks of characters with each installment, so why not put them in a role-playing game? The first Mario RPG had to create a number of its characters--Mallow, Geno, etc.--from scratch, but Sonic is already good to go.
Then again, I actually haven't played many Sonic games, so I can't say much else.

Maybe the overall game play will compensate for the bad battle interface. I agree about the graphics too.

Well the battle system will probably rotate a 2D panoramic backdrop like in SaGa Frontier so it might actually look good in motion.
But holy crap those maps are so cool-looking. I am now no longer skeptical about this game.

Amy's actually been around since Sonic CD.
But yeah, there's a wiki article that lists some of the characters. Including Big, Shadow and Rouge, none of who I really know about beyond advertisements for crappy games.

Shadow is a pretty cool character in sonic. As for Rouge, she was good in the earlier sonic games with her attacks so hopefully they get even better in this one.

How could you not know Shadow?
Ah well, I do agree that, other than Shadow, the characters started from the 3D games left a lot to be desired.
