Not all love songs suck
I never said they were all bad (though the topic title does kinda suggest that). Heck, I even posted two I'm very fond of. Rather than just disagreeing with me, why don't you tell me what it is about the love songs you like that makes you like them? And are there kinds you don't like?

If you hate a song, it's not because of the lyrics. It's generally either the hate of the singer or the hate of the beat.
I beg to differ. There are tons of songs I know where the actual song is great and the lyrics/theme ruin it for me. But everybody's different, of course...
Well, Ghost of a Chance has a great guitar solo and wonderful atmospherics in the choruses. Different Strings has a nice, odd soft-prog feel to it, plus some nice piano and lyrics that go beyond just simple love.
i'm especially surprised marvin hasn't been mentioned yet. (as a side note, i like to imagine him and kurt cobain doing amazing musical things together wherever they are now)
I like love songs because I'm interested in this whole love thing. I can relate to it quite well. I think a few people were in history that can as well.
I also like songs about other things I can relate to, and sometimes things I can't relate to but can go "I don't relate to this, but I'm feeling a little funky listening to it".
OP has never listened to soul, apparently. Or maybe anything remotely good?
I am wondering if hali's hatred of love songs comes from his own romantic failures, or if it is just a genuine distaste for the subject matter.
I mean, hali does sound a tad spiteful.

Interesting thought. That is very possible. However, it couldn't be derived from romantic failures because I haven't really had any romantic encounters. It's tough for me to fall in love, because the first step is usually infatuation, and I've never been so captivated by someone that I would feel that way about them. It doesn't help that I have incredibly high standards and believe that things like love should run deeper than physical attraction. Most girls I meet are just so...ugh. I'm sure I sound like I'm full of myself saying this, but they're just not smart enough for me.
Anyway, long story short:

Pretty much, this. I can't relate to love songs because I've never felt the way the people singing them do. This suddenly makes a lot more sense to me.
I do, however, have a genuine dislike for subject matters I consider too shallow. Like I said before, the superficial aspects of love are very irritating to me, and I don't like hearing people profess how head over heels they've fallen for someone when it's just their hormones doing donuts in their brains.

maybe you're a homo.
Definitely not. I might have a tough time finding girls I like, but I am not attracted to guys in the least. I'm very homophobic, actually.
