Yes. I bought my DS specifically for Elite Beat Agents. (though I did get New Super Mario Bros and Meteos while I was at it)
To be honest no game has surpassed those yet on the DS that I can find. (except maybe Professor Layton)
EDIT: I also updated my computer so I could run Empire Total War... Much good that did me... But fortunately there's a lot of other good games too :D

I bought the DS on launch, the only game worth playing at the time was that mario 64 remake... so I guess that counts.
No. I bought consoles in the past for the game library, rather than a specific game. And I often got the console well after launch. I am not an early adopter.
Though, with the PS3, it was bought for 2 games, really - Rock Band and SingStar. But it also works well as a blu-ray player.

I got Playstation 2 for Metal Gear Solid 2 mainly.
And I got Playstation 3 for just Metal Gear Solid 4.
Of course that's just how it started out. Now I got a a few more games than that.

Originally bought (well, asked for) a Game Boy Color for Pokemon Gold. In fact I don't remember using my GBC for much other than Pokemon games.
My brother and I bought a nintendo 64 when it first came out. Afterwards we found out Final Fantasy 7 was coming out for the playstation. That is the only reason we later purchased one.

Bought a PS2 mainly for Final Fantasy Tactics. Yeah even then I was well behind the times.

MGS4 played a pretty big part in my ps3 purchase. I didn't buy it FOR mgs4 though, I waited for them to price drop first and when they had a couple more good games.

I bought a ps3 for FF13 and then returned both it and the game.
Wow...that's bites dude.
I suppose I also bought a ps2 so that I could play the 1st Kingdom Hearts too. Damn you Square Enix! (Course there were a lot of other great games on the console so I didn't feel like I was being torn in two by the decision)

Layton is a great game, especially for puzzle and sad ending lovers.
