MAC AND BLUE CASTLE CHIPSET, HOW TO?

Posts

Pages: first 12 next last
There is this mac and blue castle exterior chipset that has blue rooftops and a dark brickwall as an addition. I've been tinkering with it for a while now and I can honestly say, I have no idea how to properly use this chipset to make a proper looking castle. Are there any screenshots out there with said chipset demonstrating proper usage of it?
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

...no one has any idea what chipset you're talking about.
*edited for bad internet connection. yay!

I would consider checking out the Material Quest games available on FSM. They're more or less full-fledged demonstrations of how to use M&B chipsets.

Any game that utilizes M&B chipsets would also be worth checking out as well. BadLuck's games in particular use M&B chipsets very well.
well, I know how to use most of the chipsets, just not that one. And I checked out Ara Fell and other games he's made but none utilized the chipset above. But Material Quest did, however it didn't use the entire chipset to its full potential. There are tons of tiles it didn't use and the castle example it gave wasn't what I was expecting, it was squarish in shape and little unique definition. Oh well, I'm trying to stick to this 'art style' since a lot of critiques from my previous game was against the clash of tiles I used, so I'll make the most of mac and blue.

Well, this is where I could figured out how to utilize it. A bit utilitarian but it is only a passing area, so it is not like you'll be spending a lot of time here.
I like it!

But the pointy roof is messed up.
it is my first symmetrical map actually. So that is saying something. The rest of my 40+ odd maps are not this symmetrical. But there is a reason for that, once you meet the king. He is a bit of an eccentric, when it comes to these things. So it is not without reason.
you missed roof points between the left and right pair of flags

The walls are paper-thin. The chipset is made in a way that walls are at least 3-tiles thick, with 2 lines of parapets and a place to walk/stand on between them. Real castle walls also tend to have at least a place for soldiers to stand on.

Everything besides that and the above-mentioned roof points is spot on, though.
You're pulling an M.C. Escher here... you need to have at least 1 tile of wall surrounding your.... wall. (The wall in front that pretty much acts as a fence)
well I'll have to alter the map slightly now don't I? I'll get to work on that and for the roof, yes I managed to notice those just after I posted. But thanks anyway! :)

Here is my new version
Still didn't fix the pointy roof and even if this king likes symmetry, why is the stuff outside the castle walls symmetrical?
the pointy roof, you mean extend it further back?

EDIT: I think I see what you mean, but in the end, it doesn't really matter. You just barely see the roof in the game itself. So you probably won't even notice it. Besides, the tiles don't seem to match up well when I try to extend it further back.
(I meant the fact they're the wrong colour)
Oh, they are the right color. It is just I'm viewing this map in 'upper layer' mode which highlights all the upper layer elements and brightens their colors.
