To be fair, how many other standards are there for objectively measuring whether a game is good or not?
How many people who play it never seems to count in these arguments.
Reviewer scores never amount for much in these debate either.
Personal opinions are pretty much immediately discarded.
Video games don't really seem to have any sort of objective litmus quality test that everyone agrees to.

That's because the argument is based on a logical fallacy: Appeal to the Mass. *insert Twilight reference here*
*edit*
Not that I'm disagreeing that there's no reliable metric for game quality.
50 Million Cigarette Smokers CAN'T BE WRONG!
Anywho, I have this game (the original WoW) sitting on my shelf, and is has been there for years. I kind of want to try it but I can't wrap my mind around paying a monthly fee to play a game. it just does not compute.

I agree; which makes it hard to swallow the "THIS GAME SUCKS YOU DON'T HAVE GOOD TASTE" statements.
I mean what does 'good taste' mean for video games? The term is definitely applied to music and film.

WoW is a great fucking game (if you disagree, I'm going to laugh and point at the 9 million subscriber count), but a lot of douchebags and little kids happen to play it. Find a decent group of people and play with them, it's not hard at all. My guild in WoW is a mature group of people, who aren't assholes and just want to have fun.
my guild is just the same there are a few kids here and there but it mostly consists of adults
I dont feel ready for Cata yet since i dont have WOLK,none of my characters are lvl 70 so i held off on buying expansions til i get at least 1 70
Oh you

The only good thing related to WoW is this
Oh you
I've always stayed cleared from these types of games. I have nothing againist WoW, but it is just not my thing.
I can't wait for Cataclysm to come out!
Will surely be trying it.

The best thing about WoW is really the social aspect of it. It's about doing these things with friends that makes them fun. Raid instances require players to work together in a tight-knit fashion. Massive PvP is pretty fun too. It's really quite satisfying once it all pans out in your favor.
It's a huge timesink though. It takes far too long to get anything worth doing done. It's addictive, extremely so. Hard to believe how much time I wasted playing it.

Anything can be fun if you do it with friends. I hear that tired line so much.
You can only kill 5 boars so many times before you realize that "hey, this is boring and meaningless!"

Oh yes, that grand revelation.
NPC: "May I welcome you to *area*. I see that you are a newcomer and have yet to acquire the strength required for more difficult tasks. Therefore, I'm going to need for you to go out into the field and slay boars. Bring back twenty of their hides for a nifty pair of boots."
Player: "Sweet, some moderately worthwhile gear."
*Player completes quest and moves on to next area after gaining a few levels*
NPC: "May I welcome you to *area*. We choose not to trouble ourselves with other regions and, as it would appear, our problems are our own. Our town has seen its fair share of attacks, therefore I'm going to need for you to go out into the field and slay spiders. Bring back twenty of their carapaces for a nifty pair of gauntlets."
