DO YOU PLAY RM GAMES WITH HEADPHONES?

The reason I ask is because it seems like the music volume levels in my RPG match the sound volume levels only when playing the game with headphones on. That's how I make it, but when it's played through speakers the music can barely be heard. I'm considering putting in a volume setting to make up for it.

Does anybody else have this problem?
I did on my desktop, but not on my laptop. There's no particular reason why I don't...I just don't. :p

Somewhat. I usually make and play games with earbuds, or no music at all. I also have my volume set really low. I leave all volume for sound effects and music at 100% in-game.

I just trust that other people can adjust their sound as needed.
One of my speakers are busted and my room is really close to my mom and sis; so I use always use headphones.
Headphones/Earphones always have better sound quality than speakers because you can hear sounds more clearly with head/earphones, so I tend to use earphones.

This one. another main reason is that I use a laptop and can't be arsed to plug nice speakers.

I listen to music through my speakers, games through earbuds, and do Let's Tries/Skype with a headset.

I usually just turn off the rpgmaker music period, would much rather listen to Black Sabbath or Grateful dead while I play.

I never used to have headphones, but now I do and I prefer playing my game with them.

Pretty much because of these. Lots of the MIDI's I use have shitty sound quality through speakers, which really annoys me to be honest.
I'll be honest. I play most games with the sound off.

To answer the perceived problem described by Link, just use 100% volume as the baseline standard and leave any in-play volume fine-tuning to the end-user. More than likely we all have varying audio setups and even more varied personal preferences.
I do everything which involves listening to something with head phones. I'm a selfish sound hog, don't like someone listening to the same thing as me unless were both watching the same thing e.t.c

It depends, when the games have lame music I listen to my psp and put my laptop on mute, usually something much less MIDI lol.
I only use the headphones during the night when everyone else at the house is asleep.
Thanks for the responses. More people use headphones than I would have thought.

As for adjusting sound levels, I think your misunderstanding my issue. The reason I am changing the volume % values is because some music plays louder than others, and most of the music is way too loud at 100% and overpowers the sound volumes. The user cannot make adjustments to this, so their audio setup really has nothing to do with it. A person can only turn their volume up or down. I use the %'s to try and strike a good balance with sound/music.

And then the issue, the sound/music is well balanced with the current adjustments, but only while listening to headphones. I'll figure something out...

Music played at 100% audio in RM for me is at normal volume as far as I know.

Likely causes for your problem include:
1. Extremely high/low volume within the audio file itself.
2. Extremely high/low volume set in hardware (ie: sound card, speakers, headphones).
3. Extremely high/low volume set in software (ie: Windows Volume Control, audio filters).

Of these, only the first cause is independent of a person's audio setup. If the cause of your problem lies in either the second or third reasons, your fiddling with volume will prove to be annoying for those with "normal" audio setups to re-correct or compensate.

Just for reference, the problem you initially described sounds most likely the second reason (hardware configuration).
I gotta do some testing on this issue. I'll try and put volumes back to 100% then listen in headphones and then speakers to see if the difference is still there. Maybe it's RPGmaker. I've had some weird problems with volumes not playing at the % it was set to. For example, if i put the meter to 50% and hit play I will hear it at 50%. But then if i close that window and reopen it, leaving the meter at 50% when I hit play again I will hear it at 100%, but then if I touch the meter at all it plays at the right %. Also some songs were too loud at 30% but too silent at 20% (in headphones), but I think those were because of the midi file.

Maybe I don't know enough about newer sound cards and OSs, but even if the volume meter in windows for say, Wave, or whatever, was at different volumes, all sound coming from RPGmaker would come through the same channel/track, would it not?

I know that when you plug headphones in the volume output is different. It's obvious because I can have the speakers on halfway and have tolerable music but then if I put in the headphones it's rattling my brain.

Maybe I can just leave it at 100% and it would be better.. I never really played around with it as it wasn't a major concern.

Anyways, I'm taking it easy on RM for a while.

chortle

have you ever considered it might be because the speakers are on the desk or wherever and the headphones are right next to your ears

sorry to blow your mind like this
Whenever I play on the computer, I am always using a pair of headphones or earbuds, although I favor headphones(right now I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 202 at a fair asking price) - and the lightweight quality and mobility of earbuds makes them more geared towards an ipod or other small handheld device. So, yeah, while I use them when playing RM games, I use them for every other purpose, too.

Do you actually play games this way or are you trying to troll us, mon?
