have you ever considered it might be because the speakers are on the desk or wherever and the headphones are right next to your ears

sorry to blow your mind like this

It really depends on how the volumes are set in hardware for both the speaker and the headphones. I've had some speaker and headphone combinations that exhibited extremely varying spectrums of loudness. Pretty sure I had come across headphones that were quieter than the speakers at some point, too.

Also, mind blown.

I've tried playing RM games with headphones but the music volume seems to be painfully different from the sound effects, so I get a peaceful volume for music but an eardrum-splitting volume for sound effects. It's because of this that, unless there are others in the house that I'd rather not have listen to my gaming, I prefer to just use speakers.

haha nice try, but no

it doesnt take a geodude to realize if sound is closer to your ears, it will be louder. thanks for pointing that out. even if i put these speakers up to my ears sounds at 20% are still very faint. while in the headphones they are pretty loud. so your theory is busted, sorry. i know you put a lot thought into that. im sure different speaker systems have different outputs with wattage/ampage or whatever so the same sound levels might not apply to every person.

anyways, i got as much helpful information out of this topic as i can.

that's exactly the issue im having. except in my case i was wearing headphones while i balanced the music/sound so the problem is when listening with speakers. i will probably just have a setting for speakers/headphones which sets the music at different volumes.

If the music is in midi format and sound effects in wav, then set the WAVE in your volume control (icon in systray) lower and/or set the SW SYNTH higher, and adjust your MASTER VOLUME accordingly.

I live in a row house with typically thin walls, so to avoid disturbing my neighbors--since my computer desk with speakers is right next to the bedroom wall, and there's no other place in the room where I can put the desk--I regularly use earphones for music/video/gaming.

And I hate the way Windows will randomly increase the volume for no discernible reason--I've gotten into the habit of checking the volume setting before starting a game, video, etc.but sometimes I forget and then it's AHHHH MY EARS DAMMIT!!
I would recomend using them, else you might be missing the sound/music

I know that when you plug headphones in the volume output is different. It's obvious because I can have the speakers on halfway and have tolerable music but then if I put in the headphones it's rattling my brain.

NICE TRY AT BEING A SMARTASS ROCKBRO, BUT

Most likely his headphone volume and his speaker volume are at different settings.

I'm considering putting in a volume setting to make up for it.

Maybe I don't want to listen to J-E-N-O-V-A.midi anyway.
