GAME DRIVE - WEEK 01
Posts
Well, well.
I have a story that I'd been working on for a while, but I got stuck with it, and now I've decided that it'll be a game based on the story made with either RMVX or RM2k3. Depends on which will be easiest to get resources for the type of characters I want to make, honestly.
I have the main cast in my head of five characters (I need a script for a five character party if I do this in VX... is that out yet? I haven't searched for scripts in I don't remember how long anymore - if I get that script it will be a VX project instantly! *gonk*) I have the setting in my head, I just have to draw it out the maps it because if I maps along the way it will look like a bunch of ick.
This will be a mostly RTP project. I can see that now. I don't have enough present day tiles to make it present day, and I really have no idea where to look for modern tilesets to make anything like American suburbia.
In other words, I'm at the very very start of my project!

My games Halloween themed since I didn't get to enjoy Halloween this year (wisdom teeth). The main characters are trick-or-treaters. I'm thinking that the player can choose from a few costumes that will effect how much candy they get per house and stuff like that.
My main thing is that I'm not sure about what tiles I'm going to use. I really quail at the idea of making Halloween themed tiles from scratch but I haven't seen anything online either.
Suzuricho: I really like this site. http://www.rpgmakervx.net/index.php?&showtopic=4241
You have to be a member to view it but it's not like it costs money to join or anything. All of the scripts are organized by category. I'm not sure if there is a five person party script, but you can check!

Note: Don't take anything I've said about what I'm doing seriously... It is the first week, this thing somehow caught be by surprise and I am a piddling mess about getting things straight.

Irilli, oooh, thank you for the tip! I will have to register with 'em! ^////^ Thanks so much!
And everyone else: Good luck on your projects, too~
Scratch that typical J-RPG idea. My gamepage just got recently accepted, and now this project will be my main project for the game drive.

Basically, this is a game with heavy earthbound influences. Possibly a fangame, but not quite.

You know, just because there are five main characters doesn't mean you need a five-person party. Party-switching mechanics are usually a positive experience for me.

This reminds me of my Halloween game, actually. If you need resources for houses, tiles, costumes, leaves, decor, autumn stuff, we made a ton of stuff that I can link you to.

Ha, well, Earthbound is also a JRPG to some extent. You're lucky to get up a page so soon... Problem with my visual novel thing is that until the artist finishes portraits, I can't provide game screenshots, and therefore no project page. Maybe I'll just make a website instead...
But I am really really liking this project. Day 2 and there's a 9,000 word script so far.
Ha, well, Earthbound is also a JRPG to some extent.True! But when I said JRPG, I meant like a typical, DQ-esque (medieval) type of JRPG.
EDIT
Added some very simple CSS onto the page and a simple logo to compliment it.

Hey, if you have an Earthbound kind of theme, that means you've got something like modern day graphics, right? Did you snag 'em from somewhere?
(If you made 'em yourself, I'd be afraid to ask to use 'em... *gonk*)

I have loads of pokemon graphics... thats a good idea.
It really isn't a bad idea! I remember there was a game in gw that mixed pokemon graphics and minish cap graphics together... And it wasn't that bad!

i've been thinking about doing a little exploration-based something in the vein of the Myst series. outside of that, i'm in kind of a game-idea-drought right now.
I've got my idea and some design notes written down; just having trouble figuring out what I actually want to make it in. lol

I would play this. That game was the best. Would you be doing it in 3D?

Maybe you could take this time to actually finish the colony.....or at least give some playable.
I got a basic, rough draft of an idea and a few characters
i think it'll be 'bout a girl with amnesia trying to find her vanished best friend, or her friend from her "dream"
think I'll use XP, I love that one :)

My game starts with a renowned mage calling for her apprentices, or ex-apprentices since most of them already graduated, for help. She sends them letters which directs them to an island in the ocean.
Anyway, since most of the characters will be mages, I decided to instead of categorizing attacks into physical and magical instead call them physical and mental. Fireballs and lightning strikes are along with weapon attacks physical while mental attacks will do what magic normally does (unavoidable and so on). Basically, the same old idea just dressed differently.
I think I'll use VX for this one. I usually prefer XP, but for this one VX fits better. There is one problem though, VX doesn't have battlers for main characters since you don't see them in battle. It's a problem because you will be able to fight the other party members later for story reasons.
