GAME DRIVE WEEK 02

Posts

Pages: first 12 next last
OK guys, second week in! How's everyone doing so far? It seems we're already at different stages and taking different routes, but that's OK, we all have different methods and workflows, we also have different commitments outside these forums which is what helps make our community so varied and will help give each of your projects a sense of identity.

I don't want anyone to feel that they're not working fast enough or not making much progress. You have until June, Christmas is round the corner and we all have jobs/ college/ whatever, it's perfectly OK if you don't have a single map yet.

Right, after that semi-pep-talk-thing, let's begin week 2!
Week 2 of ??? (31 weeks I think?)

Above is the same scene during the day and night in Legends From Ledaiya.

Basically, the premise of my game is that you take the role of 10 nobles who become trapped inside the Palace Of Ledaiya. Every night, they are transported to the "Shifted World", a parallel to the real one. While there, the lose their physical form and possess the souls of 10 legendary heroes who fought a battle in the palace. They are tasked with defeating demons in the palace in order to free the souls that were lost in the battle, but they only have 13 nights to do so.

There's also some other stuff that I won't reveal here and now.

so you're ripping off Dragon Quest VIII's moon doors, and Demon Tower
I know nothing of either of those games.

EDIT: I just looked at Demon Tower/Diablocide, enlighten me on how I'm ripping it off please. The only similarity I see is that there are people in a building, fighting demons.

EDIT2: After checking Dragon Quest 7, I can understand how I unintentionally copied it. As I stated before, I knew nothing of that game though.
Well, the writing is now at 27,000 words, and I'm only a third of the way through the first arc. This may be taking longer than I thought.

Also, started putting a website together:

And though it's not much to look at until the artist submits something, character roster:

Whatever, I'm out of this barring I don't think of something else. Can't be helped if I'm ripping everything off.

I'll just go back to make NL or some shit, cause it's apparently all I'm good at.

wait if he is ripping off demon tower AND dq at the same time then...................
Craze isn't saying you should give up. Just continue to make your six month game Lennon, you think a game like Demon Tower hasn't been made before? Intentionally or not, who cares if you took an idea from a rather small section of Dragon Quest 8? I don't...as long as it's good of course!
my, he sure is ripping off dq8 here! the idea of doors leading to another, parallel world is obviously something only dq8 does! nope, ain't nothing else using that idea, nada, no way, certainly not!

dawg.

we're all family here.

bring it in buddy.
Well I can at least say that the title is French Mech Story. Which I randomly got on a video game name generator and I thought it was brilliant.

I don't have anything made at the moment though, obviously. I'll start tomorrow, probably.
The premise of my game is that it's Halloween and this is the last Halloween that three friends are going to spend as kids (meaning they turn 13 before the next Halloween). They want to get a big load of candy this year so basically the player is going around trick-or-treating. The costumes that the player picks at the beginning of the game affect three different stats:
-Stamina (ST): this determines how much you can get bullied before getting sent home to rest.
Range (N): 25-90
-Candy Count (CC): this determines how much candy a house will give you (some houses naturally give more candy than others)
Range (N): 30-100
-Intimidation Factor (IF): if you have a low stat, teenage bullies are more likely to steal your candy or rough you up. If it's high, they won't mess with you.
Range (N): 35-90

I'm pretty set on these costumes and this is how they would effect the stats.

--------------------------------------------------------------
Starting Stats: ST CC IF
--------------------------------------------------------------
Easy 65 65 65
Normal 60 60 60
Hard 50 50 50
--------------------------------------------------------------
Mad Hatter -5 00 +10
Detective +5 +5 -5
Ninja +15 -10 00
--------------------------------------------------------------
Princess -15 +20 00
Witch +10 -5 +5
Devil +5 -10 +10
--------------------------------------------------------------
Ghost 00 +15 -20
Zorro +5 -10 +10
Pirate -15 +15 00
--------------------------------------------------------------
* I had to add 0's in where it didn't affect a stat so that it would look right.

I don't know if I'll actually make three modes of difficulty in the game though.
Almost done with my DB! :>

I made an unique chest system just for this game.
So when a player opens a chest (or a trashcan in this game) he will have a chance to either get <itemname>, which gives the player full recovery, half eaten/ half used <itemname>, where the effects aren't 100%, and a very rare version of an item which gives increased effects plus a few bonuses. (For example photon hammich is a very rare version of a hammich, while a half-eaten hammich is the weaker version of the hammich.)

Sorry if my description is vague, I just don't know how to describe it.
What do you guys think?
Reminds me of Dead Rising where food items can be raw, cooked or spoiled. Dont take that as a "What an unoriginal idea, don't do it" I like that system and depending on how it was implemented it could be quite cool
I have only about..... 15 maps done so far, but I got a lot of the storyline and dialogue.
I'm trying to implement a special skill system for the main hero. Basically, when she defeats enough of one type of monster, she gains a skill that works especially well on that type of monster. I'm not sure whether I should make this happen only after a special quest or plot point, or if it should happen all the time. Any thoughts?

You take me too seriously. The only connection with Diablocide was that there were people in a tower. X
