Let's call it RPG Makers Network. For people who make RPG games, nut just use RM.
Just saying that a person who makes RPGs is an "RPG Maker(.net)".

EDIT: Was that a sarcastic jab? On further thought, "RPG Makers" can also imply the collection of RM engines proper.

That's probably why the name won't be changed. Implication. But nevertheless, I like how this site hosts games at such a proximity to the community (with blogs and whatnot). I don't think I've seen any other site that's kind of like this. GamingW is just forum, and a few others are too. This place really deserves some attention!

Only thing I can add is: don't write these articles as members of RMN, or slanted towards RMN in any way. Write them as completely neutral third parties. RMN should probably not even be mentioned in the articles except perhaps to say where it's available from. These articles are not advertisements.

I agree. But it's still not wrong to somehow - I don't know quite - but somehow also advertise RMN (without sounding prickish), besides just its games. Otherwise this place would just end up as a locker for anybodies game and it's forum is just there for casual banter (which it really kind of is) but in a lesser kind of way.

I'm trying to upload an image (the game's logo) to HR's Trope Page, but the sites image uploader isn't being cooperative and the site doesn't support hotlinking. Help?

Nevermind, I got it working. By the way, if anyone wants to plug Hero's Realm into some other trope example pages, here's the code to make it link to HR's TVTropes page (as opposed to a red link and an empty page)

I actually don't find any interest (or the sense of proximity, as you put it) at all in any of the games featured on RMN. Whether the cause is the games themselves or the way they're presented is something I am uncertain of. Also the primary reason why I won't be participating in this endeavor.

Looking back, it's interesting that the only games I got around to playing on RMN were YDS's holiday games and some of the old contest games like Avarice. After AILA? V&V? I'd be lying to myself if I said I was even tempted to play them.

This place really deserves some attention!
The games deserve attention (if they merit it), not exactly RMN itself.
Something:
When I search for Hero's Realm
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&&sa=X&ei=mLDxTNbBO4a8lQfly9jbDA&ved=0CBIQBSgA&q=site%3Atvtropes.org+hero%27s+realm&spell=1

I don't get the actual page for it. I think this is because the title of the page is "television Tropes & Idioms." As opposed to "Hero's Realm." I am not sure how to change this.

e: is this because it hasn't been indexed?
I noticed that too! I'm not sure how to fix this myself!
I've started to plug in Hero's Realm in some TVTropes pages. Here's where you can find HR so far;

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CollectionSidequest
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Homage

Working on more as we speak. We can start doing this for other games as pages for them are created. And also like I said you don't have to feel limited by RPGs or even RMN games.
I added a page for Balmung Cycle. I'm laying the groundwork here...

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BalmungCycle

(this is fun as hell once you get the hang of it)

Also extra points if you have any sort of creative flair to your writing. You don't have to make it ridiculous by any means, but give it some spice and flavor so it's actually interesting for someone to read.

Uhh, this is just me here, but making a bunch of pages on the assumption that you can get a bunch of people to fill in tropes for them is going about this the wrong way. Don't make a page beyond your means. Are you willing/able to list a description and 20-30 "tropes" for Balmung Cycle or Hero's realm? Just dumping out a bunch of pages and hoping people come to fill them in is a good way to get a bunch of half-assed, empty, lonely looking pages that aren't going to make the game seem at all appealing.
Maybe so; but I figure if I lay the groundwork, something would happen. It's turning out okay for the Hero's Realm page. How are these pages usually started? What would you suggest?

I'm tryin', man. :(
I suppose the best course of action is to not make a page for something unless you have a summary + a couple of entries planned. Otherwise you potentially end up with pages for games with no info.

After all, someone who wants to write a summary and identify tropes is not going to be slowed down by creating a page for it. Balmung Cycle is probably okay though. Like I said, I will be doing some work with that later.
Thanks.

Also as a disclaimer; just like Wikipedia. any entries by anyone are subject to being changed/removed/improved/tweaked by the faceless masses at any time. Usually though edits scale upward, so you never really have to worry about a page devolving.

We should probably focus on fleshing out the pages that are already there and making them attractive first. If we want to improve visibility, the best course of action after that would be to start referencing them in the trope articles.

Yes. As for visibility, the best way to do this is to put in both 'sides' when you enter a trope in a game's main page; when you give a game a trope example, go back and put the game back on the trope's page. Example; Hero's Realm's trope page has 'Homage' as one of the tropes that the game has in it. Likewise, the 'Homage' trope page has Hero's Realm as an example on that page. So on and so forth. Make sure to format the links correctly so that the pages are linked as opposed to regular text, or worse, red text that leads nowhere.

Get it?

Hey, I added a description and a few tropes! Some things that you guys should find tropes for:
-Divine Grace
-That horrible Alrick minigame nalkfnsaldkfnlsaf
-Tropes for each character (I don't think Blitz falls under "The Hero," but for example, Rosa in FFIV would be "The Healer" or "The Love Interest"
-Popobobbibinana (lizardpeople)
-Deviation from Norse mythology
-Finding an Odin's Triumph in each area
-Weapon element system

***

Craze's advice on adding tropes:
-Check out your favorite games that you've beat so that you can read all of the associated tropes! Apply any that fit Balmung/HR/whatever to that project. For example, I found Limit Break under FFXII
-This is not the place to be snotty. Leave that in your head; be a cool dude there and here and everywhere ("here" is one letter away from "hero" - be a hero here!)
Good stuff, Craze. I hope others are chipping in as well. All it takes is a few lines of text to help out, everyone.
a good one that probably applies to most games you could put up there is Informed Equipment

Your problem. :/ What I was saying is that they are hosted on the same site with a forum, not that you have an interest in the games.

As for TV tropes:

I could imagine adding this trope:

"Made by RM"
- Games that merit this trope are usually cookie cutter RPG's that use the RTP of the engine it was made on. They typically have turn based combat and try to mimic FF games in some way. They are usually created like a JRPG and focus more on character development via cutscenes and writing rather than graphics or sound.
Yes Radnen, let's self depreciate ourselves some more. Great idea.
That is a bad idea. Games can be indexed into the 'freeware games' category. Anime entries do not say "This is a cartoon from Japan" and the entry for Othello does not say "This was written on paper."

And also I would not want to play any game that had that in its description anywhere.
