CloseI was recently reminded of this, although I had thought of bringing it up earlier. After I saw the Game Chill/Game Gale achievements for the first time, I looked around to try and see what you could get achievements for. However it kind of irked me when Only Game Gale, Game Chill and the Halloween contest participants were given achievements.
It just seemed odd to me that Befuddle Quest/RMN Bros weren't given achievements as well. I mean, shouldn't achievements be across the board for events? I know the ones I mentioned are judged and everything, but even the people that didn't win were given achievements for being there. I don'r really think it makes sense to have some events that just don't have achievements.
Also yes, I know achievements are essentially pointless, but still.

Well, I guess in the case of BQ and SRB, they weren't really contests (they were community games) and thus it is more of a participation ribbon than any sort of achievement. And, participants did get added to the gameprofile's development team, and thus got makerscore, which is the reward for an Achievement.
To be honest though, the Achievement system idea was never fully developed.
I personally would like to see a great expansion of the Achievement system, to not only include events, but for things like having a featured game, or writing so many reviews, or posting so many tutorials, and a host of other things.

I recall there being huge plans like actually connecting the individual game achievements to the site ones (so it wouldn't just be event related). But since WIP left maintaining the site recently....yeah.
On that note, it is also a painstaking manual process to add new achievements and assigning them to members. In fact, I think WIP did it by going right into the database.
Plus, we don't have a dedicated member capable and willing to go about making cool pixel art for achievements.

Well, like I said, people got achievements for participating in Game Gale/Chill. Although I can understand how it would be hard to do these things without WIP around, let alone run the site as well.
Also, it would be cool to get achievements for other things like that, kentona.

heh I was looking through the staff forum and I found that I had suggested "badges" for people achieving various thresholds, and get like the Reviewers Badge and Moronic Badge, way back in 2008.
I can see it now...
