PERSONA SYSTEM

I'm using RPG Maker 2003, and i've been planning on doing a fan made Shin Megami Tensei: Persona game. However, i need help with a persona system. the player can summon different personas they earn from interacting with NPCs or in dungeons. Each persona can resist certain elements and are weak to others. Players use spells through their persona, and can switch personas in battle. Switching persona allows the character to access different spells. Can someone tell me how to script this?

Alright, I'm just going to be the out-and-out naysayer and say don't do this.

If you want, I can elaborate on this in excruciating depth but I really shouldn't have to.
I just want a working persona system.....i was gonna port persona 3 & 4 to RPGM 2003

Alright, I'm going to go over exactly why you don't want to do this. Watch this space.
Umm... Let me give you advice: Read a little about how fangames are seen when made by newcomers (wich don't even post a screenshot or detail it or something) in ALL RPGmaker communities. With no exceptions. It's just that fangaming is generally seen as something bad when there's no proof it's good. (Altough there are many good fangames out there) there's a slight chance that somehow, somewhere, someone will burn you for asking this. Advertise given, try creating other things such as the story of your fangame, planning, etc. Present something, and then ask.

Also, I believe this would be truly complicated, too complicated for most of us to spend our (very little) precious shiny time explaining to a newcomer that has 90% chance of giving up after seeing how much is this complicated. >:

That being said, did you ever made an RPG maker game before?
Ok, I may help you with this...

Alright. You want Personas? Here:

First off, you're going to have to differentiate each and every persona. You're going to have to keep track of each Persona's:

Resistances: First and foremost, each persona would have to offer a different set of resistances and weaknesses. You'd also have to figure out how to implement a Reflect level, for repelling damage of an element, as per SMT convention. This isn't possible in the normal 2k3 DBS.

Stats: Strength, Magic, Endurance, Agility, and Luck. That's five - more than 2k3 offers. You'd also have to make sure your damage calculation mirrors - or at least closely mimics - the way damage is handled in P3 and P4 - admittedly easier than some of the other points here. Good luck making a Luck stat that affects Hama and Mudo hit rates, though. For that matter, good luck making Hama and Mudo skills that are affected by Expel and Death resistance.

Skillset: You'd have to commit each persona's individual moveset to memory, twice - once for the actual carried persona, and once for the compendium data. Not to mention the massive number of skills that are difficult to impossible to replicate with the 2k3 DBS.

Persona Level: This is the big killer right here. As you're aware, each Persona gathers experience and levels individually. You'll have to keep track of levels and experience for each Persona you decide to include. If you include just five Persona for each Arcana, that's 110 Personae. Persona 4 had twice this number and Persona 2 easily broke 300 between both halves.

This doesn't even cover Fusion, Social Links, the calendar, or any of the innumerable complexities of Persona or even general SMT games. I do not recommend you try to make this.

That said, I really wouldn't recommend fangames of any sort. No one's going to stop you or even bother you for making a game in a given style, however.
i can't find any 'summon like a pro' article
Fangames are good, yes. e_e
But not for beginners to make... In most cases. :/

Also, sorry, here it is.

And... I never got why Izanagi's crotch is so striking. I mean, too much. Odd.
Couldn't i make personas as items? If i made items that tought skills when held, and had an item switch script, i might pull that off. On a side note, how do i change the annoying title music?
Uh, in the database. Under system tab.

Look, bud, if you can't do something as simple as that then you need to become familiar with the engine before you start attempting something so complicated. Put some effort into it before you start asking for help.

Instead of asking if you can use items, just try it out, see how it works, test things yourself. We can't just make your game for you.
i've seen game play vids for a persona fangame
(frantically searces youtube)
Got it!

That game seems to use skill subsets....
That game doesn't look great. Do we really need another Persona game? Do you think your experienced enough in RPGmaker to make this game? It seems like your not. I still think you'll be better off just learning the basics of the program first. People can tell you how to do one thing, but then you'll just keep asking questions.

It just looks like that game uses normal skills and just shows a battle animation of some spirit above your character(look for the game 'Boss Battle V', it uses the same effect). I don't know anything about Persona but what your asking in your first post doesn't really make sense. According to that video the Persona isn't on screen at all times and the monsters are hitting the heroes, so any differences in elemental damage would fall on the hero who uses the Persona. Switching in battle might be possible by making each Persona a different class and find a way to make an item trigger a common event that changes the hero's class. I don't know if this works but my point is this: nobody is going to hold your hand and figure this stuff out for you. Read tutorials, learn the basics, and just try things out for yourself. Don't ask "well what if I do this.." just do it! and see if it works.
I just need to say one thing. Ok thank you (crap i still said 2 and now 3).
Ok but seriously, if you are going to make a persona game let's start with two obvious necessities. Dedication and a BOAT LOAD of Time!!! Good luck getting that now-a-day's. I also think it is very good for you to understand SMT: Persona series. All the info that I can give you is that this is very close to impossible. I'm not trying to put you down. I'm speaking out of experience.
