YANFLY ENGINE MELODY CAUSES HELLACIOUS LAG ON MY MACHINE
Posts
@Kentona: wowzers!
I feel like this is somehow either an OS thing or a laptop vs. PC thing. Because when I was experiencing lag I had specifically killed all programs and and processes. So I figure it's either gotta be the Windows 7 or the fact that I don't have a desktop PC that is causing the problems. Because you have a little more Processor speed than me but you have less RAM.

Windows 7 is actually like, pure awesome and I doubt it's the cause. There may be other things running on your machine slowing it down, Max.
Processor capability is overall the most important for RM. It doesn't use that much RAM but does everything in software. Laptop processors are never as good as desktop processors.

I'm dying to know what else you have running in the background, not to mention how many tabs you have open in whatever web browser you happen to be usingSince you asked:
* Around 45 or so processes running/idling on average. Heaviest of them all is Firefox, but other notables would be Windows Task Manager, Avast 5.1, Trillian, µTorrent, Winamp, and Media Player Classic among others.
* As of writing, 95 tabs open in Firefox, with Firefox weighing in at around 315MB of RAM usage. Other related numbers would be around 18 window buttons on my taskbar (I like things cluttered!), and mIRC connected to 6 IRC networks and idling in 30 channels.
Wow, I have never put my computer up to even one tenth of that.
Literally.
Edit:
I also have a bug report, but looking around Pockethouse wiki and forums I can't figure out where to actually report it.

Update:
Right now what I'm experiencing with my game (and it's really poisoning the fun of game design, because testing is tedious enough as it is without l.i.t.t.l.e. m.o.n.e.y.) is these *spikes* of lag. For maybe one minute (or less) out of every three the program will run fine, and then for the other two+ minutes e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g. on the screen just slows to a crawl. I can even see it happen in task manager. Normally, running an RMVX game.exe uses about 50% of the CPU (processor, I guess?) which results in 50-60% total use. However, when these miserable, frustrating lag periods happen the total CPU use jumps up to 75-80 percent, and it's totally unclear where the other 25 or so percent is coming from, as it does not seem to be coming from the RMVX game.exe. Battles are not without lag (and the more enemies, the more lag) but it actually seems worst on the map.
I suppose the systematic thing to do would be to see if this is happening on every game or just on mine. I'm worried it's specific to mine (I'm also worried about the alternative, as there were actually some games around here I wanted to play) and I've been thinking about an anti-lag script. While not *ridiculous* there is a rather large map and rather a lot of events going on in the area where it is lagging. (60 x 50, almost sixty events on screen.) I have however heard really bad things about anti-lag scripts (from WIP, actually, I think) so I'm pretty uncertain there. The thing that weirds me out is that one third or less of the time when it is running FINE. Like, what's up with that? If it's capable of running smoothly and fast, why is it lagging? What is happening periodically that's tying up my resources?
Anyway I really want a way to make this stop happening short of getting a more expensive computer (I have exactly $0). If it is just something like crappy event programming on my part, well, that would be a relief.
(I installed some adware protection software and it scanned for literally thirteen hours without finding anything, so I'm gonna go ahead and guess it's not malware.)
More Details:
When I start up/load the game, it is running at 27-30 FPS which looks smooth and normal. About thirty seconds later, the frame rate drops to 2-4 FPS. Two to three minutes later it comes back up to 27-30 for about thirty seconds. What gives? (Yes, naturally there are a couple parallel process common events running, but none of them are updating or doing anything in a cylical pattern that would time out to make sense with when the lag is coming in and out.)

Kread EX on RRR usually helps people with problems and bugs with PH scripts.
Okay, I investigated further. This seems to be happening in all my RM games, the "fast/slow" thing. I seem to gain a few FPS from not running in test play, but not enough to make a real difference.
Numbers are approximate:
New Project, Indoor Map W/ Overlay, Test Play: ~27 FPS/3 FPS
New Project, Indoor Map W/ Overlay, Non Test-Play: ~30 FPS/5 FPS
New Project, Outdoor Map, No Overlay, Non Test-Play: 60 FPS/10 FPS
To Arms!, Non Test-Play: 60 FPS/10 FPS
So basically, most of the time RMVX games are running at 1/6th of the FPS they're reasonably supposed to be, which is basically hell. But about one third of the time they are running totally normally. I see the FPS do these wild up-shifts and down-shifts. It is very bizarre. I am going to try shutting down and restarting again. Hopefully this will just go away.

Not to belabor the point, but I could really use some help and/or advice. I have tried everything I can think of to get this problem to stop, after extensive googling, and nothing has helped.
Yes.
I have also tried:
* Going into power settings and switching over to the hidden "High Performance" option as opposed to battery saver and/or balanced.
* Going into windows options and clicking the "Optimize For Best Performance" option, disabling all the fancy Windows 7 graphics in favor of something that looks conspicuously like safe mode.
* Downloading a program called Game Boost(er?) that while it is running does both of the above things and kills 30+ background processes.
* Several cold reboots (i.e. shutting down the computer and turning it back on).
None of these have yielded any increase in FPS and paradoxically somehow they all seemed to make it worse, but the latter might be just my perception of things.
Note that any options that cost more than $0 are kind of non-options for me as I do not have any money. This could potentially take me right back out of game making just a few days after I got into it if it isn't somehow resolved. : (
Note that last year none of these problems were happening on this same computer. I think I got some lag while testing To Arms! but nothing like this.

have you tried reinstalling VX? maybe something's mucked in the registry (does Windows 7 still have a registry??)
That I haven't tried out of the fear (perhaps irrational) that if I uninstall VX I will not be able to get it re-installed/reregistered properly. If there was a good case that that would help though, I'd try it.
What's going on with the frame rate drop is so weird and so specific I feel like someone else somewhere must have experienced the same problem.
Update:
Not being able to make or play games sucks.

Okay, I am about ready to try uninstalling and reinstalling VX as multiple sources are telling me that will actually have a chance at fixing this. But I don't actually know where (if anywhere) on my computer that I have the information stored that I would need to reregister it. Can anyone help with this? Even just like, what the activation code should look like (I have a massive "notes" file filled with junk that is unlabeled) or where I'll need to input it.

So by lag... do you mean when it goes to a battle it freezes, the menu doesn't work, but your actor sprites still move? That's what it does for me. Demo works for me though.
By lag I mean like falling to as little as 2 FPS even on maps. On maps without FX, it sometimes gets as high as 10-12 FPS...still not good.
It's been a long time. Does any of the current crew have any new information that could shed some new light on this?
At this point I think I can safely say I've done everything I could think of short of buying a new computer.

so did you reinstall it?
It sounds to me like some other process is bogging down your processor,
have you tried sorting the processes in task manager by the cpu usage and seeing which ones use the most cpu when it lags?
edit: well actually it probably has something to do with your 64-bit OS, but it wouldn't hurt to check your cpu usage
