RPG MAKER 2003

What are the requirements for Rpg maker 2003 for character sets so there isn't a nice block around them? Haven't used it in awhile.

Here is a template. When you are finished and make the background a solid color, be sure when you import it into RM2k3 that you click the background color, so that RM2k3 knows which color is supposed to be transparent. (The background will start blinking slowly in the import tool).
You can click on the background in 2k3? Wow, all these years I though it did it by itself. (Which it did.) Wow, I learned something new.
By default, if you just copy and pasted the image into your resource folder, Rm2k3 would use the first color in the palette as the transparent color.
Rm2k3 did it just by importing for me. This is the first time I had the block problem.

Not always true. It annoys me that this is actually not the case and RPGM2003 doesn't always use the first color in the palette. I'll get some games where the transparent color is different and it ends up screwing with my resource loader.
Or have a giant block around your character.
If you use iDraw the first colour on the palette is the transparent one. It's easy enough to edit if necessary, too.

No, it does the opposite for me:

That only happens if the map screwed up. Not the character
