Hmm... That is very disappointing. I've got like forty psp games. :( what a waste. Screw you Sony and your damn DLC.

oh good, a touch screen

innovation at it's finest?

Because the kinds of plastic they used didn't attract finger oil and dirt like a motherfucker...
Sony can do whatever they want if it inspires Konami to gives us Suikoden 6!

NGP will always stand for Neo Geo Pocket from where i'm standing
It doesn't have a UMD drive since they switched the format the games are in, but it is backward compatible with downloaded PSP games.

Going off the pics from here http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/27/the-sony-psp2/
It looks like it only has two shoulder buttons

And man, a res of 960*544, thats just nuts.

The R2 and L2 buttons are on the back. They are touch sensitive.

Yes, everyine, your 40+ UMDS are useless. The system is yet to be finished however, and I see a lot of the introduced and rumored features not existing when the product comes out. Along with a few technical problems.

I do kinda miss shooting people with the UMD drive by opening it while the UMD was spinning.
Not that I own a PSP, or plan on getting this one, but I think you should at least have the option of trading in the UMD for digital download credit of the same game. Or something of the like.
And I just bought a PSP. I don't like the sound of the NGP so far. It's a PSP with PS3 graphics. If I want to play a game with excellent HD graphics, I'll buy a PS3 and play it on my big screen TV, not pay even more to squint at them on a tiny screen. Better graphics look better bigger.

As soon as they announced downloaded games I knew they were going to waste my money on quickly dated tech.
No wonder it isn't called PSP2 if I can't handle PSP1 games.
On a side note: I hate DLC games. One day ten years down the road when I think, self we should play some PoPoLo Crois. And then realize the good ol' DLC game was deleted for the next MGS game... And the online store is gone. Call me a barbarian but I like having a hardcopy.

mp3's killed the radio star.
Wait a minute CHO, PSN still exists!

Of course, It's just weird Sony would try something that failed twice with a more expensive piece of hard/soft ware.
Would at least be nice if there was some sort of system to exchange your PSP UMD's for the downloadable versions, just so you don't have to buy the same games again.

You must really think Sony cares about UMDS to say that. I can guaranteed there will not be downloadable copies for most games. At least not at first. This is assuming they would even think of doing it anyway.

Well, considering PSP suffered from a lack of a library... you would think Sony in their infinite wisdom would open the floodgates of backwards compatibility at the outset. By ripping this handheld that looks suspiciously similar to the PSP1 from the "PSP" brand is like a shot in their own foot. Doesn't make sense to me. DS players can (myself included) still find more reason to pick up their flimbsy plastic dual screens over Sony's system with the Nintendo gaming library. It took Nintendo forever to up and drop the old Gameboy carts, by then it hardly mattered.
With PSP, it is by comparison a very young system.

I agree that UMD's should have downloadable files. Preferrably as an option to do directly off the UMD. If this thing can't do old games, I might as well buy a PSP1 and ignore this for a few years until it's worth the money.
Well Dudesoft, I am afraid I can predict the truth from here. From the way they aren't carrying about the library of the new NGP at the start anyway, is because I think they will still be allowing developers to make PSP games. I think they are going to do a Ps2-Ps3 on us and squeeze every inch of the PSP's worth to cover for losses on the NGP. Why?
The system has way to much stuff built in, they apparently don't even have developers interested in it yet. They are ditchig the UMD drive which already failed, and the PSP still has a lack of games. I think that Sony will be supporting technically 4 systems when the NGP comes out. "Now Gone Playstation"

Buy a used PSP, softmod it, put all your PS1 games on said PSP, enjoy Playstation 1 on the go!

Hell softmodding may not even be necessary soon due to the PSP keys being cracked. HEN's already been signed so any PSP will run it as though it's legitimate. Use Popstation on a PS1 game, sign it, copy it to your PSP, and bang! PS1 games anywhere irregardless of what model PSP you have with what firmware. The only thing that hasn't been solved with the PSP is flashing custom firmware to late-2000's and all 3000's.
