WHAT'S YOUR WHITE WHALE?

If your white whale is a videogame/record/film/possession then you need to get out more...
I would kill a man for an original edition of Alexandre Dumas' work. Maybe a first edition English translation.'I was lucky enough to find a leather-bound copy of Twenty Years Later, and really want the others!
Dumas is one of my favorite authors.
Also a porche would be great, but that is such a pipedream.

He means it's better to have loved and lost, then never to have loved at all.

Yeah so, are you really a female or what.
Since it requires me to pick a gender in my profile, I'll keep changing it to what I feel like every once in a while until they give me a "do not disclose" option for profiles.
reading is fun

I collect old books. Unfortunately, I am young and somewhat poor so right now old means 100 years or so. Last year my girlfriend bought me a copy of The Count of Monte Cristo from 1910. This is my favorite book ever written and it meets the 100 year old criteria. Easily the best gift anyone has ever given me.
Problem is back then books were often printed in parts. My girlfriend did not know that she was buying part 1 of a 2 part book. My white whale is clearly then part 2. Unfortunately, I will not be satisfied with a part 2 of The Count of Monte Cristo printed in 1890 or 1921 or any other year. It has to be printed in 1910.
The search has not been going well so far. :(

i'm pretty sure the local retro gaming shop has a copy of Lunar 2 in stock. next time i'm down there, i might have to pick it up for you if it's not too costly!
i too collect vintage games. recently, i filled in two must-haves for my collection; Quest: Brian's Journey for the GBC and Solstice on NES. a trip up to victoria BC a while back yielded a copy of Dragon Warrior, the glorious original, in excellent condition.
mainly, though, i'm trying to assemble all the requisite pieces of Earthbound- i've got the guide, which is in pretty good shape (i paid 40 bucks for it the instant i saw it in the aforementioned local retro gaming shop) and i've seen a couple of boxes over the years, but not good enough shape to merit a purchase. then there's the cartridge itself, which is 100USD+ on a good day. what a quest indeed.
also, the greatest pair of drum sticks i have ever bought are no longer made- Wedgie Powerband 5B. i'd kill to find just a few more pairs.
That's very kind of you to at least look.
I still remember conning a friend of a friend of mine into seeling me his cart of Earthbound for 20 bucks 10 years ago. He would have given me the player's guide as well, but he didn't know where it was. God I wish I had that player's guide. Still though, Earthbound is one of my "Crown Jewels" in the ol' collection.
I think there are several reasons the game is so popular with collectors, but the primary reason is because it will never, ever be released again. There's too much potential for litigation now, because of all the musical references contained. That, and the rabid fanbase who year after year toiled in making truly fantastic fan works in homage of the game. I've never seen anything like it for any other game. So, because of them, prices for earthbound carts keep going up.
(also, yes, I was wrong about the pendant and Lunar SSSC. Still got the cloth map and harcover manual though!)

shit, even a girlfriend is easier to get then some of the things I collect.
world domination
it just keeps eluding me :(
also as far as emulation goes: the publisher ony loses money if it is something that you would have bought if it wasn't free and/or is currently available for you to buy. Imagine if emulation never existed woud you be going down to the store or logging on to amazon and buying the game? and be honest. if the answer is "probably" than you are a naughty boy, if the answer is "of course not" than knock yourself out since if the people behind the game would be getting nothing from you either way, you really aren't cheating them out of anything at all
that's how i see it, and should be how everyone sees it but ya know, can't get that world takeover thing off the ground

A nice piece of ass.

Can't get a good slice of Angus this side of the Mississippi.
Edit: I know how these comments are being posted twice. If you tap the mouse button twice really quickly on the reply button, it will send two requests to the server to post the message. Someone should rewrite the code to stop it and make it send only one. Or add a timer so that one can be sent once every 300 millisecond buffer (thus stopping a double/triple tap from happening).
