THE TOP FIVE RPG MAKER GAMES
Posts
It's actually "top 5 RMN games".

I'm so proud of that list, especially because of Professor McLogic (which is the second game I reviewed here, giving it 5 stars).

I've only played 2/5 games on that list. Alter A.I.L.A Genesis and Starless Umbra, but both are very good and I agree.
It's a good list considering all of them are from here. Makes sense because I'd bet this is the best site to go for any RPG Maker project.
Starless Umbra is, like Alter A.I.L.A Genesis, a tribute to the dedication and quiet madness of some of RPG Maker Network's creators.
This is by far my favorite line.
Eh, I'm not sure how much I agree with this list. Heroes Realm should have definitely been up there. Professor McLogic, Clock of Atonement....not sure if I agree. Also, although I love Starless Umbra, it isn't really a complete game.
I feel like if this is supposed to be a list of "best of all time," I feel like The Way, Exit Fate, and Last Scenario should've been up there.

i really don't get what "amnesia it ain't" means re: one night 3
Amnesia: The Dark Descent is an indie survival horror game that came out last year.

This guy is more just displaying a list of varying RPGMaker projects, and he's got a small list of games that sort of cover all the bases in what people are looking for, with what RMN has to offer. A futuristic/sci-fi RPG, a dark horror game, a quirky puzzle game, etc..
I don't think this list is trying to be THE BEST GAMES, but more just trying to be a list for people who aren't familiar with RMN to see if there's something they could like here.
That being said, it's pretty cool to see exposure like this.

but it sounds like they didn't find one night 3 very scary so i would think "it's a lot like amnesia" is more apt
(i'm just joking about how amnesia is hailed as a paragon of horror games when it's not actually scary at all (although it seems like no one agrees with me on this (then again, no one else seems to find shadow of the colossus as scary as i do either!)))

the best way to balance your rpg: give characters terrible hit rate, make the first enemies do 0 damage so rather than being frustrating it's just boring
amnesia is pretty much just jump scares. the second penumbra game, though, that was genuinely terrifying. i found shadow of the colossus creepy and very sad.
also this list is really bad.
also this list is really bad.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent was pretty scary if played in the dark and volume up. I admit I almost cried. I'm a sucker for horror games until I play them.
the scariest thing in amnesia is the controls *rimshot*
unfortunately horror games are pretty much just relegated to jump scares all the time. if i wanted jump scares i could get them for free on newgrounds
i heard good things about the penumbra games, but after amnesia i wasn't exactly scrambling to try them out
ya i'm not sure why they even put one night 3 on there? "this is not scary at all, in fact the monsters are actually adorable, but A++ horror game regardless"
note: i haven't played any of the one night games so maybe whoever wrote the list is full of shit, iuno

Jump scares? I didn't jump. I was just generally terrified of every foot step, whisper, and book that fell off of the shelf. You know... the whole psychological stuff.
amnesia did all that really bad though. In Penumbra, it was great, though. The monsters don't despawn either.
I got genuinely panicked when I went around a corridor to enter a door I knew had been there before and it was gone. They just hit all the right buttons with that second game.
definitely though cho the games made by frictional went downhill after penumbra: black plague. I would recommend you just play that one and leave the others alone.
