I play several old games on my PC-98 and I was wondering: Are remakes of games legit on this sight? I was wondering, as I was thinking about maybe translating and remaking Erika for the modern English generation.
Nobody cares if you remake an old commercial game with an rpg maker program and post it on this site.

Define "legit."
Against Site Policy. As a dual/citizen, I really do not care much for laws.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

We have tons of games made from ripped resources, and tons of games that are fan-sequels to commercial games. Not many that are literally remakes of commercial games, but there's Pac-Ralph, and there's the guy who's remaking FF7 in RPG Maker.
I keep wanting to remake old games with different gameplay. Like Final Fantasy 6 Tactics. But I'm too lazy to script that huge of a custom system, and too incompetent to hack FFT. And I'm not sure it would really be worth doing, anyway, compared to making original games.

Remakes with an indie RPG Maker program are okay as long as you don't sell them. It'll definitely be violation if you sell.
This remake is going to be awesome, wink wink.

Oldschool Dragon Warrior + Final Fantasy Tactics...I'm lazy and incompetent but this game is going to be a rockstar.

I almost made a remake for Tecmo: Secret of the Stars with the gameplay and story fixed (like actually have the combos and everything work instead of having to look up on GameFAQs for what you could do) but that was back in about 2003-2004.
You need to be careful. There was a guy who was making Ocarina of Time 2d, and he received a cease and desist from Nintendo.

Well... that happens to one in every hundred projects. I wouldn't worry too much. My online text-based remake of various Squaresoft games has been going strong for 14 years with no legal issues. You would need some extraordinary publicity for the big companies to come after you. If it does happen, the worst case scenario is that you have to cease and desist.
Remake a game. If its free and you make no money no one but Sega will care. Sonic had several free fan remakes... Sega has ordered them to take down their hard work... especially because the free fan remakes make their official Sonic 4 look bad.
I was thinking of making a remake of Live-A-Live(LIVE A ヨVI」)
But, It would be hard to recreate the "Checker" Battle System.

Please don't bump topics from 20 months ago, especially if you have nothing to say. Thanks.
