RM2K3 MP CHECKING SKILL, HOW DO I?

Okay, I have in the first battle event page on Turns Elapsed 0 that it sets VARIABLE A to Character MP
Next battle page is triggered on said character USING his skill subset.
Inside that page is setting of VARIABLE B also to character MP.
I then subtract VARIABLE B 'from' VARIABLE A. That should give me the difference and show me how much MP was spent. Based on this I can decide what was 'cast.' Then we have a branch that says, 'if VARIABLE A is 5 equal to, then subtract 1 of said item.
And....it doesn't do this. Where did I go wrong?

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Make the second battle page only do one thing: turn on a switch.
Make a third battle page that triggers when the switch is turned on. Have that page subtract the items or whatever else you want it to do. And at the end of the page, turn the switch back off.
I don't remember why this is necessary, but it is. Hopefully it solves the problem.
(Also, your method won't work if there's any way other than this skill to spend or restore the character's MP.)

And that works. That is so wierd. Oh well, now time to change the other 600+ monster parties. yay me! Wish I had thought of this sooner before I made all these enemy parties. lol

...Yes. Test battle events thoroughly before you copy and paste them to every group.
Well, its not about testing, I already did that after your post. It works flawlessly. Its more like...adding another feature in after its all done.
Well, the reason is:
Battle events are checked before the user's action is executed, as well as after that. However, the start conditions are only evaluated once each time.
So after the user selected the skill, your battle event is executed. However, no MP have been used yet! You now set a switch. Since start conditions are only evaluated once each time, the switch-triggered battle event will not be executed instantly. Instead, it is executed the next time battle events are checked - which is after the MP have been used!
Best regards,
Cherry
EDIT: Oh, two posts before I finished this one Oo

that makes more sense and this same 'technique' when applying to enemy counterattacks. (like having a battle event that checks every Turn Elapsed 0 x1 (every turn) which sets a variable to BOSS/ENEMY HP, and if at any time its less, turn switch on, which goes to a new battle page which actually does the counterattack. I know this isn't the exact steps I need, but I got the basic concept, yes?

That should actually work, yeah. Just make sure the boss in question is immune to poison. ;)
