FIRST PERSON BATTLES IN RPG MAKER 2003?

Is it possible to have First Person Battles (like Dragon Quest and Shin Megami Tensei) in RPG Maker 2003? Or is that feature exclusive to...uh, from what I've read...every other version of RPG Maker?

Yes, but. Use VX. Pick up Yanfly Engine Melody and you'll never be forced to learn how to script. If you don't know anything about RM* engines, as I gathered from your other post/s, then you should start learning the current and best option before getting stuck in outdated software by over-educating yourself on it and then being afraid/too intimidated/have built too much of your game to spend time on something slightly more advanced.

(XP is a viable alternative.)
Or if you'd like an actual answer, yes. It's just a matter of meddling with the graphics a bit. I was actually going to do this for the prologue of EL4, as I didn't have sufficient resources for a while, but then I got some more and decided against it.
@Versalia
My computer is pretty old, it's from 2006 and runs Windows XP.

Would RPG Maker XP and/or RPG Maker VX work on mine?

Also does RPG Maker XP/VX have First Person Battles exclusively or can it switch between First Person and Third Person? Because I have some game ideas that just plain would work well in First Person.

@Sbester
Would making it so the heroes don't appear/ are hidden on the battle screen and using enemy sprites that look like your facing them work?

My answer was that it is possible but not worth learning how to do, as that time can be better spent. The only reason* to use 2k3 for something this custom-intensive is because you've already invested so much time into a 2k3 project that it's counterproductive to convert it, or that 2k3's default features match the game you're attempting to make (kentona cited this as a big reason for using 2k3 for Hero's Realm).

Doesn't sound like either example fits this case, so I gave an answer AND solid advice. ;)

Yes, VX with Melody can switch back and forth between 3rd person and 1st person, even on the fly in the middle of a game. Lemme link you some stuff.

Would making it so the heroes don't appear/ are hidden on the battle screen and using enemy sprites that look like your facing them work?
(And yes, that'd be the best method for doing it in the confines of 2k3)

From Wikipedia:
Minimum
* Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 2000 / XP / Vista / 7
* 1.0 GHz Intel(R) Pentium(R) III equivalent or higher processor
* 256MB of system RAM
* 1024x768 or better video resolution
* 100MB available hard disk space
* Sound card

*that I have ever heard that is actually valid
They should both work.

I got VX up and running on windows XP with no problems for a long time. My last attempt didn't work for some odd reason, but it was most likely due to the fact that my comp was dying.
Well, my computer doesn't have much space (only 80 GB, and only 37 GB is free) so if I get one of the newer RPG Makers should I delete RPG Maker 2003?

Because I have no problem doing that, I mostly just use it to play other RPG Maker 2003 games that the creators didn't convert so you can play it without the RPG Maker program. I also have nothing important on 2003, just some crappy test stuff made with the stock graphics.

You don't need to delete it... I don't think 2k3 is especially big, nor does its presence interfere with any other RM engines. VX only asks for 100mb minimum space.
Alright, can you give a download link? Or I can just Google it.

But, although I've heard they're pretty much the same program, which one would you personally prefer? XP or VX?

Also these are free, right?

VX is "not free" but maybe googling it will turn up a download anyway if you know what I mean

Personally I prefer VX as I am using the Melody suite. Do a little research and see what's best for you (I think there's an XP vs. VX article on the site!).
Also I heard somewhere (not on this site) that either VX or XP (I forgot which one they said, might have been both) can program custom menus very easily. Is this true or false?

Are you talking about my thread of "XP or Sphere"?

@Exclane
They both can create custom menus and other systems easily if you know how to make/use scripts.

Nope! But that's a good one to mention. Edit your post and add a link to it! There's an actual article, in the articles section.
I've read that VX is easier for beginners. But XP is better once you get the hang of it.

I think I'll try them both, starting with VX. I'll decide for myself which one I prefer. Thanks for all your help!
@Versalia
Oh, I think I know which one your talking about.
