I am not comfortable with April Fools jokes.

No, RMN it not closing down. However, the RMN that you know will be gone forever. In its place I will be putting something that I hope will realize my true vision for what I wanted RMN to be.

On April 2nd (tomorrow) I will be shutting down the site in order to implement Propelo.

What is Propelo? Some of you may have heard of it already - it is a pure dedicated indie game hosting and showcasing site. Like RMN, there will be gameprofiles, but with a much greater focus on the games themselves. Propelo is about showing the great creativity and quality that the indie community can produce!

1. Commercial Premium accounts will be available.
2. The forums - gone!
3. Fully customizable CSS for Premium accounts.
4. Custom domain names for Premium accounts.
5. Integrated chat channel directly on the site.
6. Greater control user account privileges and controls (including expanded locker size and options).
7. New rating system.
8. Staff reviewers.
9. Stricter quality control.

I have convinced Holbert that this is the best course of action for RMN. He has been at the helm for the past month, but has found that instigating real change around here is at best difficult (but in reality impossible). kentona (unfortunately, as many of you like him) is not comfortable with the aims and vision of Propelo and will be stepping down. Karsuman and ankylo will remain on board.

I admit that I was spurred to make this change to RMN after the ugly side of this community has overshadowed any shining successes. At first, I was ready to give up, but after some time away from RMN I thought it would be better to save what we have and at the same time usher in a new era of indie game collaboration and showcasing!

I will be migrating all of the content from the RMN database to the new Propelo database. However, stricter quality control measures will be enforced on the existing content. Some games, articles, and reviews may be purged. The rpgmaker.net domain name will redirect to Propelo.

I am also looking for Staff reviewers. I plan for this to be a paid position (from the funds generated by Premium accounts). If you are interested, post here.

Propelo is slated to go live on May 23rd.

WIP, I am interested in being a staff reviewer. Where should I send my resume?
Wait, so the site is going to be shut down for 2 months?

It's for the best folks. I never like the whole "Propelo" vision but I am not willing to let the site sit stagnant. I am a lot more open to removing the forums proper now since we can't even discuss donations without attacking each other. Expanding to more genres and engines will also bring in some much needed new blood.

On a side note, the new arrangement will also bring my good friend Brickroad back into the fold and anything that he is involved in is awesome in by book.

Yes, the time will be needed to migrate the RMN data into Propelo and prepare for the relaunch. There are a lot of forks in the code since I took over (thanks ankylo, kentona).

On the other hand it seemed as if there really only was one person on the "no donations damn you" side.

Shinan you are correct in that there were only a couple of folks on that side of the aisle and even I disagreed with their positions. But they weren't being offensive or non-constructive and they were hung up for having an opinion. Disagreements shouldn't mean it's open season to start personal attacks, even if it's out of perceived loyalty to a friend.

Anyways, back on topic.
Is there anything we should back up just in case or will it all be essentially moved?

All of your game data and such will be moved, though some of the really bad stuff will be pruned after launch. Right now it's just the forum content that is disappearing immediately and honestly I am not sure of that is worth saving.

"no donations damn you"
Actually, as far as I know, nobody was against donations, it was much more nuanced than that (the topic is still in the archives in case you'd like to read it).

EDIT: Ok, ok, I'll leave it at that. It just wanted to point out that my position was dumbed down to something ridiculous which nobody would agree with. In other words, Shinan's portrayal of my opinion is unrepresentative and misleading.

No need to dig all that back up anyhow.
