Probably Majora's Mask, Chrono Cross, or Legend of Mana. Majora's Mask and Legend of Mana's worlds were awesome. I loved exploring 'em.
Some people have said it before and i as well like the world of FF8 a lot for some reason. And what about FFX's world, Spira? I can understand people didn't love everything in the game, but the world was pretty awesome i think.

I actually loved Spira. The visual design team was STELLAR. The architecture, the fashion - everything is in the same visual theme, but has very distinct flavors in every single major city. Even Kilika's residents look different from Besaid's residents, despite both being relatively rural island communities (but both share 'islander' types of fashions). Favorite areas = Macalania Woods, Guadosalam, Bevelle.
lol hello random yt/image dump
I always thought the ICO/SOTC world was p damn cool. A giant wasteland with ruined castles and temples everywhere, lots of shrines, etc. Yet nothing is explained leaving a lot for interpretation. The game pretty much forced you to run around and explore, if you didn't like sailing in Wind Waker, you'll probably hate this game.
Machinarium's world was pretty cool too, not just because of the actual setting but like, the robots that inhabit and operate it. There's no dialogue whatsoever between these guys and yet they all carry out their automotive duties. Kind of like a live factory with no humans present.

Surprised no one mentioned Skies of Arcadia yet. Probably my favourite JRPG world. A place with no actual ground and just floating islands everywhere always amazed me. Even better with the main characters being pirates.

author=VersaliaThis is one of the many things that FFX-2 absolutely ruined, and it's pretty unfortunate. I like it when a game gets you to care as much about a temple or ruins as you probably would if you were there(well, okay, exaggerating there a bit I guess but w/e). When I saw what they did to Zanarkand in X-2...author=gRaViJaI actually loved Spira. The visual design team was STELLAR. Not only that but what they did in FFX-2 was just a lazy excuse to not change ANY of the mapping. (That campfire you lit 2 years ago? yeah, still burning in the same spot with tourists standing around it.) Although Yuna was pretty peeved about the whole thing too, and then she... did a monkey sidequest... to keep the tourists from being driven off...????? Yeah, let's not pretend X-2 made any sense.
Oh and Darken: YES. YES YES YES. SOTC world was stunning, and I can't believe I forgot it. I'd like to add to your observations that there are no other living creatures in that world, either, except for the occasional lizard, you, and your horse. I don't even remember fish or butterflies.

Woah, I missed that, that looks really good! It doesn't look much like JRPG though. How have I not heard of this?
oh yeah darken, I almost forgot abut Shadow of the Colossus.
That game as an amazing world, It's not very deep which some people probably don't like, but I think it's really cool when a game has this amazingly beautiful world and they don't explain every last nuance of it to you, I don't know but it kinda makes it more real.
edit: not that deep histories and backstories are bad, I actually like them very much

author=Cosmic_SeaWoo! Yeah, I agree with his so much. 8D
Resident evil Raccoon city era, odd i know but a zombie apocalypse sounds genuinely exciting
EDIT: The cool thing about that choice is that it resides in a fictional "Modern day Earth" except with the exception of monsters and evil corporations and whatnot.
Wouldn't that be sweet...
All of you should be ashamed for not saying Dragon Quest VII!

I'd give up the real world anytime to live in that one.

well the evil corporations part is real...have you ever heard of Wallmart?

At its face value its similar to most RPGs, magic, castles, dragons, etc etc. What's so interesting about it is how storied and detailed it is...
Yeah, but I imagine every other fantasy world is just like that in the end, even if their respective games don't focus on those aspects the way Suikoden does (did? ;_;) so I'd rather go for flying ships and castles in the sky... then again, one of the things that really do make the Suikoden universe interesting is how it's all related to the runes, from the very creation of the multiverse or "million worlds" if you prefer, to people's everyday life.
And speaking about well detailed, historied, expansive worlds, *and* flying ships, castles in the sky, and much more, give me Ivalice any day of the week. =P

no.
i have, however, heard of wal-mart
never heard of that establishment. I am surprised one of them has not sued the other for some copyright name infringement.
Ivalice (Ogre Battle, Vagrant Story, FFXII, FF Tactics)
FFIX
FFX
Shadow Hearts
Beyond Good and Evil (With the Fun and Minigames song looping in the background. party hearty)
Another World
ICO and SOTC had beautiful settings, but I feel they are just like the worlds that we step into whenever we are alone with nature.
(which is why i like those games so much)
