GEORGE TAKEI SPEAKS OUT AGAINST WHITE WASHING IN MODERN FILMS/ETC

I guess it's a slow process. There's no bankable stars at the moment but given time there will be. There's already some bankable Asian-American directors (Shymalalalaladingdong and that guy who does Fast and Furious movies) and I think progress has been made for east Asian-American actors playing actual Asian-Americans (compared to putting on a bad accent). Looking at Indian Asian-Americans they are far behind. I guess it gets there one race at a time. First you have some blackface and black people in minor roles that usually can't talk so civilized (white) people can understand them. Now there's fairly big money-making "black movies" and black actors (though you rarely see a mainstream blockbuster with a black lead, or maybe I'm wrong. I mean an event movie, not some Tony Scott movie).

The East Asian-Americans are climbing up the ladder from the minor characters who speak with a thick accent to regular minor characters. Sure they're still "minor characters" but in ten to twenty years they'll be the lead in movies where black people are the lead today. (and black people may be the leads of event movies!)

Indian Asian Americans are still pretty deep down in the "horrible acccent" trench though.

I guess there's also Mexican-Americans though they're probably as bankable as blacks.

But you know in the end it's all about the Jews. It doesn't matter if you're black or white as long as you're a Jew!

George is absolutely correct.

I think being politically correct is the most fucktarded (I know retarded is politically incorrect!) thing there has ever been. I don't understand why it is such a big deal what color or ethnicity people are. There won't be a day when people stop recognizing other people as different colors, but seriously... it's a color. I thought people being picky about a color was done when you were pre-school.

I'm down with the idea that people will want to remember their heritage or where they're from, but I think it should go both ways in who's offending who. If I offend someone's cultural heritage unintentionally, I think they should understand that I DON'T understand and shouldn't get so worked up over it. We spend so much time saying how we want equality, but at the same time we are going in the opposite direction by drawing more and more lines between everyone. It's so messed up. There is no such thing as an ideal person we should try to be, we're all just who we are.

Did you even bother to read the article before posting?
Yeaaah but I kinda veered off to something that has been bugging me in my sociology class...

Yeah. People don't seem to understand what equality really is. It's not about bleaching everything and pretending that no colors/differences exist...it's about acknowledging and respecting that which is not like you. That's all.

Whitewashing Akira is a lack of respect.
in a way i'm hoping they keep all the original names too just to make it so much more bizarre

PETEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!!!

Can't fail either way.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

They're actually changing Tetsuo's name to Travis. And changing the setting to Manhattan. I haven't seen any official word about Kaneda's name but I heard someone say it was changed to Kevin - I think this was just speculation though.

Also the movie is now about 9/11. I'm not even making this shit up. Someone sent Cracked an early version of the script.

They might as well drop the name and everything else connecting to Akira and make an independent title.
it would all be off better than way.
On that note, I think there is another article on Cracked about how original screenplays often get co-opted into franchises. Like, someone writes a brand new story and the studio warps it into Fantastic 4 vs. The Mummy or something.

On a side note, when did Cracked become interesting to read?
