For the record, I have all three Jaks

Jak 3 is my favorite. Jak 2 did suck, but I want to like it. I wouldn't have liked Jak 3 without playing Jak 2, though. What 3 does to the world is more amazing if you've played through 2.

Really? Jak 2 is my favorite! Couldn't even get through Jak 3, although I'm replaying them all right now so I can. I've been sitting on the 4th for a while and don't want to try it til I finish the trilogy completely. I also have Daxter for PSP, but I'll be skipping Jak X.
Yellow Magic
Could I BE any more Chandler Bing from Friends (TM)?

Twisted Metal: Black was pretty awesome. (Had nothing on the 2nd game in the series, though!)
Digital Devil Saga is one of my favorite game(s?) for the PS2 and I'd recommend it to just about everyone. Persona 3 and 4 (Nocturne too I guess) are good as well but DDS, especially DDS2, was just a joy to play; the story is really engrossing.

The game is pretty grind heavy I should add but most of the SMT franchise is.

EDIT : loloops, I posted in the wrong topic
Don't listen to folks telling you to by SMT spin-offs, Nocturne is the best game in the series. =D (Has a hatred of SMT spin-offs deeper than the fiery pits of hell, or LA.) Also, Romance of the Three Kingdoms VII, my personal favourite in the series. And if you reeeeally love the tactical stuff, Nobunaga's Ambition: Rise to Power, it's not as deep with the characters as the RPGlike RTKs (VII, VIII, X) but, the game is fun, I mean, who doesn't want to conquer Japan is the Kakizaki(Matsumae)? Dark Cloud 2...why has no one mentioned this (And if someone did, I apologise.) it is full of graet win and delicious cake. Bully is pretty fun too, at least I enjoyed it. I also +1 the Onimusha series, all superb games. Sakura Wars V, because who doesn't like New York (will potentially castrate any who don't like my beautiful city. ;P)? And it has snazzy jazz tunes and a cast of women? Ano, my head's out of suggestions right now, maybe more later.

are you calling DDS a spin off

i will find you

Derailing here: The more time goes on, the less impressed I am by P3 and P4, though. They were the absolute best a couple years ago, but now? I'm not so keen on the extra-slow gameplay. Persona 2: IS is still stellar and worthy of SMT, at any rate. Devil Survivor is more "true" to SMT style than Strange Journey/SMT IV, if you really get down to it. SMT IV is more of a departure; Devil Survivor, SMT III, and DDS are pretty much the "core" of SMT right now.

obligatory chaos SMT rant over
Eh, obvious spinoff is obvious. I loved Strange Journey, though I don't consider it SMT, but more a side game like "if...", and MI: DS is a good game, there are some spinoffs that I like, MI & DS being the ones I enjoy. But, when it comes to SMT I like mine with a side of classic.

And while Nocturne was in fact, the best, I wish they'd have kept 1st person as the main view mode. 1st person RPGs are perfect. =] I mean, what better way to get you to play a role, than by having you assume the character's viewpoint?

But yeah, I stick by my argument that generally SMT spinoffs are bad, and I especially hold hatred for Persona. 'Cause really, who needs another product about whiny Japanese high schoolers? (It was only okay when they did it with "if..." once is enough for a series.)

Final Fantasy 10 was by far the best game for PS2. And FF12.
I might be wrong in your opinion, but in mine, those were the best on the PS2...

Um. Atlus specifically declared Strange Journey to be SMT IV. Same way Nocturne is SMT III, in fact.

(we could go into further Megami Ibunroku sematics or we could discuss the PS2 game library as per the thread)
Yeah? Doesn't mean the fans have to feel like it's a part of the series. But, anyway, back to the topic at hand. Dynasty Warriors 5 & Samurai Warriors 2: Empires, both the best games in their respective series. And for more Koei goodness, Crimson Sea 2, PS2 exclusive (which meant I couldn't play it for years as my PS2 was broken. T^T).
Okami and Final Fantasy XII were my favorites. I never really got into FFX. The random encounters are very repetitive, there's very little exploration (even less than FFXIII), and apart from 2 or 3 bosses the game is laughably easy. Oh, and unskippable cutscenes suck.
IIRC, Strange Journey started off in development as SMTIV but they decided to make it a side-game like "if..." (which really needs a translation by the way)

Anyways, I loved Nocturne... about 30 hours in. The small dashes of story in-between huge as hell dungeons and tons of grinding was extremely off-putting but when the game picked up, boy did it pick up. I guess it's fair to say that DDS (at least in 1, because 2 was fun and engrossing from start to finish) was a bit similar; near the end of both games was epic and exciting it's just too bad that with Nocturne (at least IMO, I don't know if this place is as hostile as GameFAQs yet) the build-up came a bit too far into the game.
if you don't say "FFX" there is no justice in the world.
FFX is good if you ignore all the dialogue, the plot, & Junya Nakano's contributions to the soundtrack. You're free to pay attention to Lulu & Rikku with no loss of gameplay experience.
