I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

There is an effective vertical limit of 32768 pixels (1024 rows of tiles). Beyond that point, it'll still let you import the image, but the scroll bar in RPG Maker XP won't work, so you won't be able to scroll down to actually use anything past that. Also, if your tileset is more than about half of the max size, the RPG Maker editor program will lag a little (the game won't, just the editor).

This is indeed big enough to cram the entire RTP into one tileset, and is a huge amount, though if you are using a lot of imported resources you'll probably still need to create multiple tilesets. (Well, you don't need to, but it's way easier than going through and deleting unused tiles out to make room.)

1024 rows of tiles isn't unlimited but it is still a massively huge amount. This is basically the best reason to use RMXP, since along with the three layers, it gives you by far the easiest time creating maps among the Enterbrain RPG Makers. I'm totally spoiled by it now. My typical mapping style now is to get to a point in the map where I want to place an object and go, "Oh, I should put an engine here. Do I have an engine in my tileset? No, doesn't look like it. I'll add the one from Tales of Destiny to the bottom of the tileset. In fact I might as well just add the entire ToD factory tileset to the bottom of my tileset. I'll probably use other parts of it later."

Thank you! This knowledge will be very helpful whenever I decide to actually put some maps together. Too focused on drawing stuff for other parts of the game right now.

Hey, welp advice corner. Is 45 minutes of sharks too many sharks? Should the enemies in the sewer after the Shark Factory all be alligators or something instead?

The Shark Factory does have numerous different kinds of sharks (lava sharks, laser sharks, rocket sharks, a giant shark with sunglasses, etc.), so it's not like it's 45 minutes of the same exact enemy or anything. But I am getting some complaints about potential overflow on shark density.

If your game is not about sharks, yes.

"Should the enemies in the sewer after the Shark Factory all be alligators or something instead?"
Hmm.. well what are the sharks manufacturing at the factory? If the sharks aren't having it out with each other after tension at the workplace, sure, alligators will do.

Seems like the Shark Factory is an equal opportunity employer. Oh wait, the sharks are manufacturing lava, lasers, rockets and sunglasses.. sounds dangerous. And you are saying after a long day of work, these sharks must take the sewers home and fight alligators along the way? Guess it serves them right for creating WMDs to destroy alligators with. As an alligator, I would be pissed about this. What a story, you are on to something epic. Yeah, I think these sharks have two types of enemies now. Their shark factory overlords and the damn alligators. So, for ideas you can have the shark factory and the sewers both share that 45 minute time block. The player wont be spending too much time in one place, IMO.

"But I am getting some complaints about potential overflow on shark density."
This did not happen. But if it did, remember there is more to dungeon design than walking a path into nonstop battles.

Ok, what is this? This is all very odd.
I think the whole shark concept is a result of watching austin powers and having the "sharks with fricken laser beams" joke stuck in your head for too long. sharks are cool and silly when used in interesting contexts but it gets old after fighting so many sharks.

Some people have fire dungeons and ice dungeons, I have shark dungeons. 90% of the enemies inside are shark-elemental.

After Illustrious's comment I now want to make a sidestory game where you play as a shark. It would play like Harvest Moon except with a bioweaponry factory instead of a vegetable farm, and all the characters are either lab technicians or sharks or supervillains. I think it would be fantastic.

Wait wait wait. Shark elemental? :\
This topic just got more confusing. Just when I thought I understood it.
In gimp I made a image transparent. Yet when I use it in rpgmaker the whole image is partly transparent and the outline of the image is still here. How do I fix this.

@Thorgrim: I'm guessing that the graphic in question had a single background color? If that was the case, I imagine that you selected that color and pressed the Delete key to make that color transparent. However, doing that causes ALL instances of that color to be transparent, which may explain the partial transparencies that are occurring. However, I'm no real expert in such matters, and I'm certainly not sure about the outline you mention. Perhaps someone with more experience with GIMP could provide more useful information?

What are you using the image as? A monster, a picture, a sprite, a tileset?

Also, a question like this obviously has nothing to do with game design & theory, and is a question about how to use the software, so it should have been in Help & Requests. Leave this topic, make a topic in Help & Requests, and post a screenshot there of what it looks like in the game.

Ok LockeZ will do. You scare me though. All of your posts seem kinda threatening to some extent you'd be a great mod. Maybe I am reading to much into it though.

Oh, trust me. If I were threatening you, I would not make it subtle. You would know.

I think that's an indexing issue Thorgrim but I don't know how RMXP handles transparency(guess that's what you're using, at least going by your game page. Try importing the image again and if after selecting the image you want to import you're shown a preview - try clicking the colour that you want transparent whilst looking at the image in the preview window to select the colour you want transparent (I know this works in RM2k3 but like I say I have no idea how it works in RMXP).

Where's resident-RMXP-buff-Kyrsty when you need her?

I import the image into battlers and it never asks for a color. This is because the iamge I am using or trying to make transparent is not a sprite but an actual image. Also I need to make my thread bye.

Is there some trick to getting the "<state rank x:y>" State Tag to work?
author=Illustrious
I did not miss it, I just deleted half my comment. I thought it was necessary to prevent a discussion of Max's character in this thread. I think he saw what I intended for him anyway.

I know its my own topic, but I really believe this topic should be getting more use. I mean it's good placement for a lot of those one-off questions I see people not requiring a whole thread for. Might be my fault for giving it a vague name trying to be cute. If I could, I would probably change it's name to "Quick Questions, Quick Answers".

I'm pretty sure you can. The edit button should be in the very bottom left.
