WINXP - PROBLEM WITH MUSIC IN RM2K(3) - KNOWN PROBLEM?

I'm working on a WinXP machine, and I'm having trouble with the music in RM2k and 2k3 games. I can hear sound effects fine, but not the music. This appears to be the case both when playing the games, and when attempting to play the music in the editor. I do not have this problem with my copy of RMXP - I can hear sound in the engine and when playing games.

I'm asking first, I guess, if this is a known issue. Second, if it is, what's the cause, and what's the most reliable solution?
Change the audio midi to midi synthesis was it in the sound control panel
Go to the volume control and check whether the "Mute" box is checked for "MIDI". If it is, uncheck it. Also, move the volume bar for "MIDI" to maximum.

Muting of the MIDI channel often happens after you play MIDI files in Windows Media Player. Use some other player (like Media Player Classic) to avoid this issue.

Umm,try the Volume Control, SW Synth.
That is what is usually wrong whenever mine doesn't work.
It turned out to be Volume Control.

Nothing had 'mute' checked, but as Adon237 indicated, SW Synthesis was down at the bottom of the slider. Shifted it to the top, went back in, and managed to get the sound working again. Although I'm now confused as to why it didn't affect RMXP as well.

Thank you all for your gracious assistance.

:D Yay! I actually helped! :D
I feel special today lol!
EDIT:
I don't think RMXP uses SW synth... I could be wrong but...
RMXP plays music using DirectSound. That's also why MIDIs sound a bit... hollow... in comparison to the RM2k.
