I am new to the RPGMaker program (I didn't know it existed until I passed a link while searching for something else), and I'm sure I'll be back here asking A LOT of other questions later, but two things I've been wanting to know:

*I have the 2000 edition, btw.*

(1) I'll use one chipset, then when I'm done using chips off of that one, I'll try to switch to another; when I do, all the chips I used turn into ones from the new chipset. How do I stop that from occurring? Or can I?

(2) I thank Don Miguel for translating the program (illegally or not), but his grasp on the English language is an eyesore; how can I change the dialogue in the blasted dialogue boxes on his sample game? I'd like to play it while having less stress on my brain from his almost-Engrish.
1. You can only use one chipset for each map. If you decide to change chipsets you will notice that the map will change.

2. I guess that you could change the font using this. It is a Font Patch.

If that font patch doesn't work you can easily try finding one somewhere on the net or other members of the forum will probably know of some.
The font is fine; I fixed that with a patch I downloaded earlier. I mean trying to change what is being said in the dialogue boxes when the characters speak.

Damn, I might need to look for some more chipsets.....
did you try actually opening the project itself? That's really the only way to do what you want is to go into the project and retype it
I pretty much knew that part of it; I just don't quite know how to go in & retype it.
Well, I would actually suggest downloading a diffrent game from this site and play it as opposed to playing his. But yea, if you want to play it, best bet would be to open it and retype everything.

Go to the event in question and right-click on the "Show Message" commands. There's an "edit" option there. Besides, why would you be worrying about his game in the first place? Isn't the point to really make your own interpretation of a game using the maker? Unless, of course, you're doing DON MIGUELS ADVENTURE 2.0 or something.

If you're looking for chipsets, BTW, you can check the resource section of this site (which is still growing).
DON MIGUELS ADVENTURE 2.0

Two copies please.
Yes, that would be good. I can't see how you need to change his dialogue in the game for. His english seems perfectly fine to me.

We're talking about the same game, right? No offense, but if you think Don Miguel's dialogue is fine, I'd worry about the writing in your game.

Anyway, I suggest the topic creator download these for decent-to-good examples of rm2k games:

A Blurred Line
The Way
Kinetic Cipher
Three the Hard Way
Legion Saga 2
Love and War
Onyx
Romancing Walker
NigSek

Also consider downloading rm2k3 and trying these:
Ara Fell
Kinetic Cipher (Again)
Alter A.I.L.A
Rise of the Third Power
Legacies of Dondoran
Hero's Realm

RMXP games worth trying:
Master of the Wind
Last Scenario

RMVX just got released, so there's not much out for that yet.
Meh, scratch that last question - I just figured out that his game is horribly short......

trance2: Actually, that crossed my mind.

Karsuman: Thanks for the RM2k suggestions; I don't think my comp will take 2k3, though, and I know it won't take the 2 newer ones.
2k and 2k3 are BASICALLY the same. Don't worry, before my laptop, I had a computer that couldn't run xp either.

I've seen far worse games with bad dialogue other than Don Miguel's. I won't name any as i don't want to be offensive to them people.

It's okay. I can take it.

A Blurred Line
The Way

Play these, if nothing else.

A Blurred Line is one of the best RPG Maker 2000 games ever made, and The Way is one of the best freeware games ever made. A Blurred Line is arguably more fun and has a less confusing storyline, but The Way has pretty decent graphics, a great cast of characters, and it actually ends.

If your computer can handle RM2K3 games, try out Hero's Realm as well. It's pretty awesome, if you're into old NES/SNES RPGs.
