ANOTHER GAMING COMPANY GOT HACKED...
Posts
First Sony, then Nintendo, and now Sega.
Okay, seriously...what the fuck!? Am I the only one appalled by this? Why has there been a sudden surge of asshole hackers interested in tearing into the confines of these video game company's databases as of late? Seriously, I don't get it.
As bad as it may sound, do you know where my brain immediately goes when I hear one of these stories? The hacker(s) aren't satisfied with what the companies have been doing and--as if said hacker(s) believe they actually have some sort of say in company's business--break into their network as some sort of protest. There isn't any evidence of this at all (I think), so I'll just leave it at that.
Furthermore, what does this say about the gaming community as a whole? That we're devious pranksters who thinks they can do as they please?
Or...what, you know? Shit like this just makes me stop and think, what the hell is the problem and why does this keep happening?
What do you folks see this as?

"We have identified that a subset of SEGA Pass members emails addresses, dates of birth and encrypted passwords were obtained. To stress, none of the passwords obtained were stored in plain text."
They were on Plain Text

Why can't hackers do something constructive, like hack into the U.S government and find out what is REALLY going on at Area 51. that we can stop lazy alien movies from ever having to be written again(except Paul that movie amazing)

Why don't these people hack someone who actually deserve it?
Amen, dude.
The powerful nations of the world need to form a world-wide anti-douchebag organization, dedicated to destroying hackers who hack game companies "for the lulz."
Seriously, there are much more deserving targets of hacking. Like, for instance, insane political separatist faction websites, or credit card companies.

Well, what they're likely doing is trying to get as many names of people/usernames and passwords as they can so they can hack into other systems. If they wanted to hack into say Microsoft/whatever, then there's a good chance that a developer/manager/whoever that works at Microsoft has a psn account/wii account, etc. and they're using the same password as what's on that system. So, if you get a bunch of usernames and passwords from these other systems, they look for someone who works at company X who's in their database of passwords (say John Smith), guess the correct username (say jsmith), and they're in.
Of course, it's more complicated than that, but having that many people-password pairs has got to be a hacker's dream.

I'm kind of thinking that these companies, who has enough buttloads of money, should have placed more work into building a super secure server, than to worry about making anymore games and such.
These people, such as Sony, Nintendo and Sega, put less amounts of money that they can get by with, into making their servers, then they go on from there. Of course, they won't make as much right away if they spend more, firstly, but they are idiots if they don't.

Well, i think they used the bad terms. A hacker only hacks to discover think, not to hurt anyone. The people who stole information for personal reasons are called crackers

sony as a gaming company ::)
That, and maybe Sallie Mae, or some cocksucker politician.
The only reason it happens is because a bunch of stupid 4chan trolls think they're funny.
Fuck, I hate those idiots.

Might be slightly off here, but isn't it Lulzsec doing the hacking? In fact, 4chan was hacked by the same group and the two do sort of have a bit of "cyber war" going on.

Exactly. That's why I'm so appalled that it's even happening in the first place.

That's the second time I've heard that name. WTF is Lulzsec, anyway?
LulzSec has been pretty annoying as of late... They were DDoSing the login servers for both League of Legends and Minecraft, so I randomly could not play them at some points. (Although, in both instances, they did not take any passwords AFAIK.)
This is weird, first PSN, then Nintendo, and Sega? I thought that company was dead.
EDIT:
Wait... It is! Well nevermind, if it just got hacked...
